Sucre sucre’s musical foundation lies at the crossroads of classical music and reggae – a combination that continues to shape her approach as a DJ based between Berlin and Vienna. Her fascination with the ambiguous and genre-fluid began early, influenced by formative experiences in church choirs, traditional East African music, and her sister’s collection of garage records. When not moving between her two home cities, she turns to her favorite ritual: spending hours on a kneeling stool – her preferred position for focused listening and sonic exploration. Her collection is ever-expanding, guided by a taste for the unconventional: tracks with unusual lyrics, offbeat energy, or irresistibly strong basslines. A true Capricorn, she follows intuition over direction, letting instinct lead the way. Motivated by a desire to tell stories and a deep curiosity about sound, sucre sucre is constantly refining her musical identity – unafraid to cross boundaries, take risks, and lose herself in new and unfamiliar sonic landscapes.

We're none too fond of terms like 'selector' here at the figurative 12th Isle HQ. We think it was a shrewd marketing ploy concocted by natural wine bar owners - and possibly the freemasons - who repackaged the spergy single-mindedness of record nerds into something that sounded much more socially agile and cool in order to distract punters from the exorbitant price of nibbles. Thankfully, the time of white label soundtracked £40 sashimi seems to be behind us, and DJing can go back to being obsessives playing odd music made by even odder folk without much in the way of pretence. Someone who encapsulates that kind of energy has very kindly put together a nearly 4 hour long sprawl and has stated that under no circumstances should this mix be enjoyed alongside thinly sliced bits of raw beef and wine with bits in it or there will be hell to pay. He ran the hugely influential INBEAT record store for over 20 years which was the central hub for so many local DJ’s and music heads rolling through town. As a DJ, he’s always been and still is one of the most unique and daring to step in a booth.
