Well, that was a weird couple of months. Apologies for the lack of transmissions but I’m sure everyone understands the complete lack of motivation and inspiration that has been cast across the world. That being said, it hasn’t slowed everyone down that's for sure. I’m completely backed up with incredible mixes from incredible people, so let’s get back to our original program. 

In celebration of such, we’re excited to return with a (gentle) bang in the form of episode 60, via the incredibly talented Kia. Unless you’ve been living under a rock (which is completely understandable) you would’ve noticed Kia’s light in many facets; an incredibly talented DJ, a passionate and dedicated label boss, and associated mix series runner (big ol tip’o’that to Animalia // link below), woolen based wunderkind, and most importantly a fucking lovely human being. 

And if you do know Kia then as you would expect, her submission to the series is nothing short of breathtaking. A perfectly constructed soundscape, daydreaming of an above-average paradise. Emotionally inciting on all fronts, it’s nice to feel things again and I think this is perfectly timed with the world opening back up again. The subtly rhythmic pulses of 4x4 drums reactivating that lost sense of liberating yourself on the dance floor (finally back in our sights) and the ethereal harmonies that keep you grounded on the bedroom floor. What Kia manages to do in an hour is exceptional, a short story that translates to a full novel, a true testament to her talent and understanding of music and all of the concepts that go with it. Best served through headphones with room to move.

As we slowly approach the end of the long sunny days, it’s now more important than ever to savour that feeling of the sun on your skin, and this sublime love letter from Spin Lord is just the thing. A contagious bundle of joy that one can bask in over and over again, harnessing the true essence of elation through sound on a worldwide scale.

Conjuring memories of daydreaming in the midsts of suburbia. A new mix from @priori-ties

Some words from Priori: “I grew up in a working class neighbourhood of Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. Being an only child in the suburbs meant I spent a lot of time daydreaming and contemplating my environment. I was a bit of a melancholic kid so post-punk and ambient music made a lot of sense to me when I discovered them. I stumbled upon an album called Strike by 154 by accident, probably wanting to download something else off of Kazaa. It really changed things for me as a teenager and I still hold it dear. There's a song from it in the mix, along with a bunch of other things that bring up similar feelings for me.”

“As for news:
Alex (Dust-e-1) and I are putting out a new record as ANF on NAFF, should be out April 26th.
Some more collabs and solo things coming out in the summer.”

"Unlike the other daytime curators, Lena Willikens chose to open La Sucrière's impressive main hall on Friday, playing alongside her usual back-to-back partner Vladimir Ivkovic. The two looked relaxed behind the decks, swaying, smoking and sometimes smiling. The crowd, less dense than during the other headliners due to the early start, were also in a good mood, using the extra space to feel out each beat of the slower selections. Much of the two hours felt like existing in the lagging moment of a sci-fi movie, just before a spaceship launches into warp speed (in a good way, I promise)."

Welcome back friends, new and old. You are about to tune into another segment of ‘get to know the DJ’ and this week's guest is, the formidable Darcy Justice! A star on the rise, her taste and aesthetic years beyond her, her set at IV19 (IV will be back! I promise) is a personal highlight of mine (which is immortalised as Butter Sessions #83 TIP!!!) her consistent A+ output on Hope Street Radio, and a mess of other mix’s she’s put out are all of a high caliber. When she can serve music fresh to the public again there will be nothing that can stop her. 

The mix! Fuck! It's beautiful! 2 hours of absolute power, shifting from weight to weight and actually mixing tracks (RIP), the ebb of the grounding and flow of the joy is absolutely immaculate. Within the first 4 tracks, you can get a gauge of what’s to come, nostalgic banger’s through fresh eyes mixed in with pulsing beautiful neo-soul. The rhythmic throb throughout works not only as a slingshot,  but it also relieves tension through the comfortability of the all known pace of life and the dance floor we ever so miss. The mix comes perfectly with the shift into nicer weather and hopefully with the chance to see your friends, eat with your friends, dance with your friends. The perfect backyard picnic soundtrack, hopefully, gets a run at every kick on over summer. I’ll leave the rest up to you.
