Took Mercedes for a wild ride last night

My "first" "official" submission of an hour long set for PHDJ. I learned a lot this set! It was challenging to stay embodied when following hot cues and "plans"! I feel like the most seamless sets have come from a lack of planning, hot cues, and tricks that I've planned - more based on intuition and embodiment of the songs I've studied. So playing a plan is a practice too! This was certainly my first attempt at playing a more planned set, and I still had a blast!

Mix 5: Wendy's Birthday Ceremony

The name is true, I slurped up some spontaneity before this set, sprinkled with cold chocolate chips. This was a completely unplanned set. This was a test to see how well I know and have organized my music. There were a few cringey transitions because of unexpected clashing highs (douha --> love vibration par exemplar). Some other things: I question the song "work" after "everything you have done" - the energy change didn't feel exactly right to me. I also practiced increasing tempos of two songs at once. I felt very in touch with what worked and what didn't. I feel like I built the energy for quite a while at the beginning and then released it with Douha but I am not sure if that is what I would do again. Douha feels more like an end celebratory song and I wanted a song with more bass to follow zulu. Would be curious to know how it felt to others. 

Overall, I had fun feeling, playing, and NOT PLANNING AT ALL. This week has been too busy and this was a good check-in for me. Leggo babi!

You know us. You know where we are. We are family in the garden. It lives in our bones, our muscles, our multicellular composition. We know that experience and it feels like a return home. The candy scent of irises blooming on a spring day. The gumballs littered on the earth, poking our feet as we begin to bop with the beat. The bliss of innocence, play, and senses. Old friends and new. Drama-free. Strawberries dipped in powdered sugar, just like when we were kids. Herby sweet refreshments that tickle our tongue. Easy breezy bassy sounds lift us out of cloudy days and bring purple starburst sunsets. This is it. This is what we're sprung about. The pleasure of being alive; we can access it through the senses. The Garden Sessions 4/17: Pleasure

This set is from the depths of my heart and my ancestors and all the stories untold. It is inspired by my birthday and playing whatever the fuck I want, the Gemini Season, it is inspired by land and by fire - the element of summer, it is inspired by lifetimes of conflict, especially in the middle east and africa but all across the world and across the privacy of our own hearts, the violence of land back, the love of land back, the desire for safety, whose land and why and how can we have more, how do we protect it, how do we share it, how do we love it, and importantly, fire's role in transformation. This set drives heat for the purpose of reigniting flames of humanity needed for justice, peace, and a loving world. I hope you feel. I hope you live. I hope you hope. I hope you love.

3|15|25 LIVE WITH COMMENTARY :D Ecstatic Dance Charlotte

There is a lot going on in here that I was pretty excited to throw in. Vesna by DahkaBrahka helped form the shape of the first half. My family showed me DahkaBrahka probably a decade or so ago and despite all of our differences, I have to give it to them - they have incredible taste in music. Honestly, without them I would not be a great DJ. They shaped my love for music and dance. Thank you family <3 

Dahka Brahka is a Ukrainian folk band that has these exhilarating and hypnotic percussive builds and heart-striking vocals. I built this set while visiting my family in the Navajo Ridge in Utah’s Dixie National Forest and somehow I allotted only a couple hours Wed-Fri to create this set. Although I think there was hidden collaboration because I DJed our whole hour long drive to and from Zion National Park and I incorporated multiple songs that they expressed appreciation in during that ride. I think it was with their support that I built this set so quickly - it’s certainly the fastest I have ever built an ecstatic dance! The transitions aren’t perfect but the story of imperfection and rhythm across the globe is. I’m not here for perfection anymore - I am here to love my life (LML).
