An Interactive Media Opera in Eight Movements
and Video Projection Installation
DEL+ALT+CTRL is an interactive media opera in eight movements and installation
using four-channel panoramic digital imagery to confront how we experience our bodies and our
environment. We experience the exterior of our bodies intensely through gesture; we experience
the interior of our bodies intensely through our contact with food.
The concept of opera to the 21st century: the aria in the 21st century is not just the song,
but a multisensory, interactive experience.
The initial inspiration for this undertaking was a news photograph in The New York Times
taken in Ramallah, Palestine, in which the starkness of the landscape complemented the
disquieting aggression of human-drawn boundaries and re-definition of homeland.
DEL+ALT+CTRL is an interactive media opera designed to create an immersive,
multi-sensory experience that will juxtapose images with sounds, live interactions with projected
media, sung music and spoken words with recorded nature and industrial sounds, printed texts,
movement with stillness, brightness with dark and power and control juxtaposed with
randomness.
The work is structured around Eight Movements:
1. Prelude
2. Song Creates Gesture
3. Gesture Creates Heritage
4. Heritage Creates Harvest
5. Harvest Creates Cities
6. Cities Create Boundaries
7. Boundaries Create Deletion of Memory
8. Coda
