Funkademia takes place every Saturday night in Manchester to a consistently full house. We bill our night as a 'chronological history of soul' with our dj collective taking you on a journey through soul, funk, disco and hip-hop with a touch of smooth rnb and some big house classics. 

The night takes place every Saturday at Mint Lounge, a sexy two room club space with loads of atmosphere and a different vibe happening in each room. The venue is located on Oldham Street right in the heart of the Manchester's coolest night time scene, the Northern Quarter. Funkademia celebrates 16 years as a weekly club night in November 2011.

As a self confessed 'split personality dj basket case', Kid Blast aka Johnny Showbiz aka James Wilson aka Ian Williams is a reclusive guy who seems to have more aliases than MI5. With a history stretching from the late 80s, he has been spinning records now for 22 years under a variety of names (“I change my name each time I start playing a new style of music, don’t ask me why!”), and has played at pretty much all of the venues that kickstarted the Northern rave scene, before taking a break in the late 90s, re-discovering funk and old school hip hop, and reinventing himself as a block party dj extraordinaire, along the way playing alongside the likes of A Skillz, Prodigy, Krafty Kuts, and Rob Da Bank, and establishing himself as a Funkademia resident since 2009 at Manchester's longest running club night of 16 years. 

These mixes have previously only been available on Mixcloud, so now they are available for download too. Due to only having 12 hours of time available for uploads, I will be deleting older mixes to make way for newer mixes, however the older ones will still be available on Mixcloud, and if you want a download send me a message and I'll send you a link.
