“Gioioso!” is an animated work for brass sextet and organ by Charles J. Torian, Jr. There is a lot of rhythmic activity in the piece; activity which might almost be interpreted as dancing. This score is intended to be ‘happy’ music! There were many moments of smiling as the work unfolded.

Gioioso! (Brass & Organ)

The Finale of Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony begins with a soft chorale and ends with what can only be described as a grandiloquent triumphant conclusion. This current version for concert band presents excerpts from that movement, scored slightly out of order to facilitate certain harmonic transitions. While this adaptation is not technically difficult, the sustained closing section requires endurance from the entire ensemble. The length is roughly six minutes.
