I don't do this much at 80, but Friday about noon I'll be headed to a small family friendly festival in the Georgia mountains where I'll be listening to more than making music and gathering with long time family like friends who I have joined with at such events for years. This will be my time to see those folks again. This song grew out of similar events out in the pines, where we made music together on thrown together stages that we called "down town"! I will be in the company of loved ones, The song, with it's Southern Country Rock flavor, is a little music man 'splaining about why we do what we do. I know some of you have been there too! The way I figure it, you guys are in the band with us! Many thanks to Howard Williams for the tasty harp, Bryan Carter for picking everything with strings and other implements, and Mark Lyle for having my back on vocals. Dancing is encouraged!!

The Reason Why We Play (In The Pines) Lyrics:

Working on the soundtrack of Dimension Slip was an interesting challenge, and I was glad to have composer Marco Werba walk through this process with me. We wanted to make sure that the audience would be able to experience a range of emotions through the film while at the same time staying true to our story and maintaining a tone that would resonate with it. We playfully explored our theme song through different instruments to achieve this, and I think it was a simple but powerful way to strengthen the story we are telling.

Texas-born singer/songwriter Christopher Wright shared his brand new single “Good
One To Quit On” today. Executive produced by legendary singer/songwriter Ray Wylie
Hubbard and produced by Pat Manske, the country track features bluesy, harmonica-tinged arrangements and clever songcraft inspired by Wright’s childhood memories
watching rodeos and the influence of its culture in his home state. Click here to listen.
Recorded at The Zone in Dripping Springs, TX, Wright co-wrote the track with Doug
Folkins and enlisted a grab bag of Texas and Nashville talent to play on it includingManske (drums); Tobin Dale (bass/guitar) and Lucas Hubbard (guitar/harmonica).
“My buddy Doug Folkins and I wrote this song out in Nashville,” explains Wright. “He
had asked me if my family had any rodeo experience. Just so happens, being from a
little Texas town, my sister and I used to get roped in the front yard by our dad (who
was one hell of a horseman I might add) so I guess that qualifies. Either way, all those
old memories growing up watching the big rodeos in Mesquite & Ft Worth all the way
down to the smaller regionals in Gladewater provided just enough rodeo nostalgia to be
able to contribute to this tune with my Canadian brethren.”

Good One To Quit On

From the Piney Woods of East Texas, Christopher Wright Music was borne out of strong conservative Christian values and a steady diet of Merle Haggard and Hank Williams, Jr.

By eleven Christopher was playing guitar and writing music. His art offered a much-needed distraction from his fractured family. In 1986, Christopher, his mother, and sister moved north of Dallas to McKinney, Texas. After some scuffles with the locals, they relocated to Allen, Texas where Christopher firmly planted his boots in the ground.

 

Around this time urban hip-hop and Seattle grunge were shaping the musical landscape. Christopher’s love for the art of music was fire-roasted by the likes of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Dr. Dre. For Christopher, these artists complemented his respect for music of The Outlaws of Country Music.

High school and college were hastened by good times and trouble. Those days flew by like a Ford Mercury fresh off the line. Christopher was a bit of a hell-raiser in his younger days. Had a few run-ins with the law.

“I got sidetracked with fast living, illegal shit, and shortcuts. Addiction made my straight lines into circles. Life was all fun and games until it wasn’t. I never shot anybody’s dog or anything, but I surely danced with the devil. After a few cold nights in county, I woke the hell up. Then it was the warm light of God”s word that guided me back to the light. In my desperation I found a deeper appreciation for everything I was losing.”

In 2016 Christopher was diagnosed with acute liver failure. “That shit brought me to my knees. “Christopher credits his faith to getting him sober. And music for saving his life.

Christopher’s voice is deep, direct, and steady like a locomotive. His music will no doubt resonate with folks who are seeking light in the dark.
