in rostbraunen schuppen
hier spielt kein kind
es sind nadeln im sand

so hochgrau die wand
als taumle tag blind
zwischen staubaugenpuppen
kein vorhangstoff flattert

hier, wo sich sinne nicht nähren
hier sei die anmut zu finden
hatte der seher verkündet

hier, wo güte still schwindet
hier, wo die augen erblinden
kehre sie ein um zu gebären

interlinear translation: fair faced // the veneer on the swings flakes off / in rusty brown scales / there is no child playing / there are needles in the sand // the wall rises high and grey / as though day stumbled blindly / among dusty-eyed puppets / no fabric moves in the windows // here, where senses don't feed / here you will find grace / the seer had prophesized // here, where kind hearts are fading / here, where eyes are blinded / here she'd come to give birth //
