The Alma Guitar Quartet was formed in 2013 by Hannah Woollacott, Berxwedan Koçkaya, Jonnie Cumming and Rowan McConkey at Birmingham Conservatoire, whilst studying under the tuition of Mark Ashford and Mark Eden. The quartet have performed in masterclasses with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and Frank Lamm at last year’s West Dean Guitar Festival, as well as with a number of other highly regarded concert artists including the likes of Xuefei Yang and Gary Ryan. Alma perform a broad repertoire, ranging from early Baroque arrangements, to early twentieth-century works composed specifically for guitar quartet, and popular music from South America and Cuba. Recently the quartet has earned acclaim from their performance in Birmingham Conservatoire’s own Sylvia Cleaver chamber music competition, where they were awarded second prize.

The Chimaera Guitar Trio consists of classically trained guitarists Will Brobston, Zachary Larson, and Ethan Lorentz. Formed in 2014, the trio first met at the Lamont School of Music in Denver, Colorado and has studied under Laura Husbands, Jonathan Leathwood, and Ricardo Iznaola. They perform throughout Denver and the Colorado Front Range; their current program consists of guitar trios from South America and Europe.

Doug Dunham is a classical guitarist in Asheville, NC, originally from Dubuque, IA, who started out on the electric guitar at age 12. At 13, Doug played his first gig at the local boat club and continued to play in bands throughout high school. He became interested in classical guitar when his uncle, John H. Dick started building sandwich-top classical guitars. Doug was drawn to the romantic compositions of Latin American composers, which is reflected in his repertoire.

Doug has received awards in talent competitions, and had the opportunity to perform at Dubuque's Grand Opera House. He served in the National Guard in both Iowa and California  and is a graduate of the University of Dubuque. Doug would love to perform beautiful music at your wedding or special event.

Eric James has been a guitar fanatic for most of his life. Over the years he has continually crafted both his classical and electric guitar-playing skills. His original blues/rock based music incorporates exciting live guitar solos played to music tracks that he has created and recorded. While Eric continues to expand his repertoire of original music, he also can perform a wide variety of music on an electric nylon string guitar. This music includes jazz standards and Eric’s tasteful arrangements of classic rock tunes. In addition to completing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Guitar Performance, Eric spent a year in Spain, studying the guitar. He performed twice before the great Spanish maestro of the classical guitar, Andres Segovia. He has decades of experience performing a wide range of music on the guitar. He is available for bookings in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina.

The London Guitar Orchestra (LGO) is a group of friendly classical guitarists that meets once a week in Central London to laugh, learn and play some fantastic ensemble music, under the instruction of its fearless leader and conductor Tom Kerstens. The group had its genesis in the late 1970’s when current member Penny Sewell, along with Don Florence, fellow guitar tutor at the Mary Ward Centre, dreamed up the Pendon (i.e. Penny and Don) Guitar Society, the purpose of which was to provide a friendly, relaxed venue in which their students could perform throughout the academic year to a sympathetic audience of other musicians. What started as a way to strengthen students’ skills and foster their ability to perform in public quickly developed into two long-running courses – a solo master class and an orchestra class, both of which eventually moved out of Mary Ward and into the LGO’s current home in Conway Hall, Holborn. In keeping with the spirit of Pendon, the LGO frequently meets up for mutual concerts with other student groups from the likes of Morley College and the Working Man’s College. The group has flourished, having added many new players throughout the years. The music played spans many eras and styles – from Baroque to Romantic to new music, from Vivaldi to Piazzolla to Brouwer. We are now pleased to bring the unique sound of the guitar orchestra to a wider audience!

Tom Kerstens is one of the leading figures in guitar music today – a brilliant and versatile performer and one of the most influential champions of the instrument’s cause. Kerstens made his debut at the 1987 Greenwich Festival and has subsequently played most other British festivals, most recently at the Harrogate, King’s Lynn and Brighton International festivals. He has toured the UK and Europe, plays regularly at the South Bank Centre and other major London venues, and appears frequently on television and radio. His debut CD, ¡Fandango!, (Conifer records), which featured a programme uniquely played on three different guitars, (baroque, romantic and modern), became the most broadcast guitar CD on Classic FM between 1992 and 1996.  Since 1995 Tom Kerstens has been Artistic Director of the International Guitar Foundation and Festivals (IGF). Under Tom’s leadership the IGF’s main showcase festival in Bath has established itself as the foremost in Europe, and Tom has commissioned over 30 new works for guitar from many leading composers. The IGF also stages the London Guitar Festival, a twice-yearly series of events at major London venues showcasing the best in major and new talent from around the world, with workshops, lectures and master classes open to all.
