A few years back I read Gretchen Rubin's book called The Four Tendencies where she breaks down the four types of personalities. Each are based off of how we deal with both external as well as internal expectations. It has helped me better understand myself as well as others.

69: What Are The Four Tendencies And How Will Knowing Them Improve Your Life?

Lindsey Schwartz is an entrepreneur, top podcast host, and best-selling author. As a sought after speaker, Lindsey travels around the world inspiring women to get out of their own way and into action around their big ideas and helping them create the careers they’ve always dreamed of.

After seeing numerous women in her life stop short of pursuing their own entrepreneurial dreams because of fear and self-doubt, she saw the need for more honest conversations about the ups & downs of entrepreneurship to show women that they don’t have to have it all together to get started. From there, the Powerhouse Women Community, Annual event, and Podcast were born, with the motto that we're not meant to do business (or life) alone!

Lindsey decided she wanted to help others to create a life that they loved and create results in any area of their life that they wanted to. As she dove into this work, it brought the awareness to her, that very few people were willing to share the real life struggles they were still going through in the present moment of their business growth, not just how hard it was ten years ago. She wanted more people to hear that side of the story and this is ultimately what inspired everything that she’s doing at Powerhouse Women. Powerhouse Women is designed to help women get out of their own way and into action around their ideas. She does this by sharing the real view of what it looks like to be pursuing big dreams and showcasing stories of women who are also on that journey. 

Our biggest gifts in how we are wired are the things that come naturally to us - which we often overlook. Lindsey built a community on being honest about the struggles that she still very much goes through daily in her entrepreneurial journey. There is this idea that we need to be an expert in what we’re doing - but all we really need is to be an expert in your personal story; what have you been through that maybe you can give someone else insight about some of the things that helped you along the way.

One mistake she felt she made was wanting to feel ready before diving in. But in reality, going through discomfort in an entrepreneurial journey is part of the journey and it will never get easier - you will just get better at staying motivated to push through. If you get to the point of “I’ve just had enough and I know I’m meant for more,” that’s how you can know you’re ready to create the life you have always wanted. If you want to move the needle in your business, you at some point are going to be so much better off in learning from people who are already doing what you want to do. So invest in yourself by investing in a coach to hold you accountable for the things you say you are going to do to reach the goals you have. Go into your investment with an open mind and know that whatever comes from the investment was exactly where you were meant to be lead. 

At no point do we get to just sit back and stay comfortable. Don’t expect that getting out of your own way is going to be comfortable. To grow, it’s going to require you to get really uncomfortable with yourself and your limits. Ask yourself if it’s really any more comfortable for you to ignore the fact that you feel like you were meant for more to impact people than to not take a leap of faith and try? The truth is, they are both uncomfortable but at least choosing to lean into the discomfort has the potential for greater blessings than you could even imagine on the other side.
