Furtive's super-saturated genre-mashing set from the SEQUENCE Four Year Anniversary stream. This set zips through pointillist techno hypnotics, drum'n'bass wigglers, tongue-in-cheek pop-club deconstructions, neo-rave pedal-pushers, and cryptic ambient book-ends. One hell of a journey. 

Recorded in August 2020 during pandemic swelter, this set was played at the last event organized by SEQUENCE in an important warehouse venue formerly vital to DC's underground. While SEQUENCE and this same warehouse may have been laid to rest, the energy of the events and the memories of foggy warehouse experiences will live with us forever.

For Somersault’s 102nd mix we have a very very special guest @w_t_c_h !!!! WTCHCRFT is regular in the New York techno scene playing at some of the best clubs in New York. Most recently WTCHCRFT has played shows along side @moma_ready for his @hausofaltr party at @bossanovacivicclub . Coming off a recent release with @sorry_records with a wild @jadalareign remix and an @i.love.acid vinyl only release that sold out in minutes WTCHCRFT has not only had a huge year as a DJ but as a producer as well. He sent us over a mix with lots of unreleased music that he’s been working on recently and we are so happy to have him on!

And on a personal note, I’d like to add that Anthony is one of the most kind and welcoming people I’ve had the chance of meeting in New York. Anthony was one of the first people I met in the city and he’s become a genuinely close friend of mine and has introduced me to people that I can also call close friends. If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Anthony I know you can agree with me in saying that he is a true light in this scene and he deserves everything that he’s managed to accomplish this year and the years to come!

Darwin (@darwinspec) juggles many different roles in dance music as well as she juggles her records in the DJ booth. The Canadian-born, Berlin-based artist runs her own REEF parties at Berghain, and has nurtured a wealth of emerging talents on her SPE:C label. She is also the founder of Clean Scene, a climate action collective that wants to explore a more sustainable future for dance music. They recently authored a stark report about the industry's carbon footprint, which you can read through cleanscene.club/report.pdf. 

Darwin's sound is rooted in various UK styles, from bass to dubstep, garage to breakbeat. That is evident in the 100-minute mix she lays down for us this week. It opens with thoughts about environmentalism and some indigenous jungle recordings before grinding through chunky Afro drum patterns and supersized bass. The pressure builds throughout, the cavernous rhythms grow ever more muscular as the urge to snake your body becomes overwhelming. It's a perfectly balanced, well-controlled mix that showcases the irresistible power of heavyweight bass music.

His productions formulate a refined deep and ambient atmosphere, cleverly connected to his interests beyond music. „Quelza (real name Léo NaïtAïssa) , born in the late nineties, in the suburb of Paris. Cradled in arts since his childhood, his connection with music was made at an early age. But it’s in 2013 that he made his first encounter with the Parisian electronic scene which made him decide to start producing his own tracks. He only released a few tracks between 2013 and 2016 and preferred to perfect his musical style before publicly releasing his first tracks. The first appearance between 2017 and 2019 on the French label RND or the Berlin label Voxnox. He quickly got noticed with his singles EP from 2020 until now, with appearances on labels such as Mord Records, New Rhythmic, KSR, and Hayes Collective and made him earn the respect of the most respected artists of the scene. Leo moved to Berlin at the end of 2018 and performed in some of the most prestigious clubs in the city such as Tresor , Griessmuhleuh , About Blank, or Anomalie. The period of closure of the clubs did not prevent him to make his name in the scene with several appearances on live streams such as Hör or Room Trax. The career of the young artist is only at the beginning and announces a brilliant, passionate and creative future.“
