wav.world emerged out of a long-running chat exchange of mixes, tracks, and some playful speculation: If you were going to make a platform for DJ mixes in 2024, what would it look like?

Mixes are a unique type of musical expression. They capture a specific moment in time, determined by the knowledge and style of the artist. A mix is as important a creative statement as an album, remix or EP. One mix can change an artist’s career, one mix can open a listener’s mind to something completely new.

𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓯𝓪𝓿𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓽𝓮 𝓶𝓲𝔁𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼.

We miss the importance that mixes used to have. So, we made a platform for mixes.

Each wav.world mix gives one artist the time and resources to create whatever kind of mix they want, to share something sonic about who they are and what they love.

Every wav.world mix will feature a longform interview with the artist which gets to the heart of what moves them—in music and in life—through text, video and image. Each edition of wav.world will feature the commissioned work of music journalists, visual artists and graphic artists.

Surround yourself instead with those who uplift and support your musical endeavors and ideas. Flee whoever brings negativity into your life like the plague!!! Next up comes a long-time torchbearer of the Naples techno scene. Gaetano Parisio first came to attention under the pseudonym Gaetek, and released a string of records on labels like Planet Rhythm and Primate Recordings that quickly found their way into the collections of esteemed selectors like Dave Clarke and Jeff Mills. That was the 90s, and as the new millennium broke he donned his own name and funnelled his creative energies into releasing record upon record under several (of his own) manifestations of imprint: CONFORM the first, followed by ART (Advanced Techno Research), SOUTHSOUL and ADAGIO. With his trusty three/four-turntable, two-mixer set-up he kept up a regular touring schedule and authored many memorable nights, pushing a syncretic brand of Techno that took influence from the wealth of peers around him. Ultimately, the pace of output and the demands of DJ life were anything but light, and so it was that 2007 put a pause to his activity. But after a ten year break he moved to Barcelona, set up a new studio and has been cooking up his usual frenzied productions since. Much as before, his gritty, unfettered loops wear the unmistakable guise of his earlier CONFORM releases, and carry a sheer momentum that’s a surefire bet til the end of the night, if not much longer. Bassiani Podcast 207 is a window onto Gaetano’s vision; circling basslines that charge headlong with no hesitation, pure, driving techno, recorded live at Kvanchi’s Curated by Resident night on the Bassiani floor back in January.

Omen Wapta (@omenwapta) is an electronic music label and multidisciplinary platform based in Delft, Netherlands, founded by Dutch artist Woody92 (@woodyninetytwo). The word "Omen Wapta" has no intended meaning, it just it. It aims to take listeners into unexplored realms of the mind, sparking illusion-like visuals. Through ever-changing textures, vibrating frequencies, and expanding spaces, it ventures freely across different dimensions. The label endeavors to mark a faint sound suspended in the universe, with each album featuring crisp, high-speed percussion that echoes as if falling into a pit teeming with reptiles and insects, emitting creaking and cutting sounds, while also transmitting the chanting of shamans, swirling up raw and primitive energy, invoking wisdom from the ancient world in the jungle.

Violet Poison is the proto-EBM/Industrial side-project of Italian producer and dj, Francesco Baudazzi, previously known as Obtane, the techno project he shut down in 2012. 

Violet Poison is inspired by oldschool EBM and synth/wave music from the 80's. Baudazzi also runs different projects under various aliases, some focused on 80's thriller/horror soundtracks and some on US-oriented Italo-disco/freestyle. Baudazzi also is the label head for Veleno Viola that is also a podcast mix series

“For the closing night of Return to the Source at the @ithqdetroit presents @thebunkerny party, we have a night of unique pairings, back to back sets from people who knew each other mostly, but usually don’t play together. After a full weekend of non stop great music, what better than the drama of the unknown combinations to keep you fully engaged, with deeply curated pairings and flows for each room. On May 27, @mikeservito x @jeffreysfire scheduled from 1am until 3am. Mike Servito always majestically closes out No Way Back, but what would this combination bring? Sfire brought the heat, and their styles melded in a slightly pitched down form, music from all eras appeared. To me, it was a form of sonic bliss. I went and asked the Danny from Bing (who does the sound and built the speakers for the Garden Stage) if he minded if we went later, he was all for it. So were Servito and Sfire, and it just kept getting better and better. The crowd was totally locked in, the feeling was ecstatic, it was truly a beautiful moment. A magical closing set that naturally extended from two hours to 5 hours of pure heat from two DJs whose whole life is this music and this culture — who could ask for more?” — BMG
