The fiercely independent Arabs, who had previously been ungovernable and were not ruled by any of the superpowers of that time, were amazingly overwhelmed and defeated by the sheer force of this one man's personality, compassion and mercy. Decades of enmity and hatred fell apart and transformed into love, compassion and brotherhood.

Imām Abū Ḥanīfah is often referred to by the title al-Imām al-Aʿẓam, the Greatest Imām, for he left a great legacy in the science of fiqh. Despite this, the scholarship of Imām Abū Ḥanīfah is repeatedly attacked and scrutinised. For example, it is often suggested that he did not know Arabic and also lacked knowledge of ḥadīth. Thus, his credibility as an Imām is questioned and his fiqh (school of thought) are considered by some to be baseless and in contradiction to the Qurʾān and ḥadīth.

Imām Sufyān al-Thawrī said about him, ‘Anyone who hates Abū Ḥanīfah or speaks ill of him can only be one of two people, either he is completely ignorant or he is envious of him’. Imām al-Aaʿmash, a well-known Muḥaddith, once addressed a gathering of jurists and said, ‘O assembly of jurists, you are the doctors and we are the pharmacists and you O, Abū Ḥanīfah , you have taken both.’
  
A poet read in his honour, ‘They envied the young man when they could not keep up with his pace. So people are his adversaries and his enemies like the co-wives of a beautiful and fair maid who say of her that she is ugly merely out of spite and envy. So they are unable to withstand his greatness, his piety and his knowledge. And when there is no argument then the next stage is character assassination’.

When a person refers to the expert opinion of one of the classical scholars and their respective schools of thought he or she is considered by certain people to be one who has abandoned the Qurʾān and ḥadīth.

In order to correctly apply the teachings of the Qurʾān and ḥadīth it is impossible, according to the classical scholars and the clear majority of the great body of Muslim scholars of the ummah, to simply read the Arabic or the translation of the Qurʾān and ḥadīth and thereby understand the laws of religion. Similar to any other field of learning, there is an obligation upon us to resort to the understanding of the experts. This is where the role of fiqh comes in; fiqh is simply the distilled knowledge of the Qurʾān and ḥadīth by expert scholars. Unfortunately, today, when it comes to the Qurʾān and ḥadīth, everybody becomes an expert and has an opinion except for the true experts themselves, the scholars of Islām. What a tragedy!

If the body is created from the Earth then its nourishment comes from the Earth. Our souls are heavenly and therefore its nourishment must also be celestial and heavenly.

Imām Muḥammad ibn Ismā‘īl al-Bukhārī is regarded as the greatest muḥaddith of his time, surpassing the rank of his contemporaries including his teachers. He authored many books during his life including the famous 'Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī' - a book which is regarded as being the most authentic book after the Qur'ān.

This talk will detail the life of Imām Bukhārī, the talent he showed from an early age and those who marvelled at his genius throughout his life. He was tested frequently by scholars to see if he lived up to his reputation and he displayed a level of piety which reflected his knowledge. 

The unfortunate events leading up to his passing away are also detailed in this talk and a full sanad (chain of narration) is included at the end from Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq to the first ḥadīth of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.

Allah has commanded Muslims to fast during the month of Ramaḍān not for any physical benefit, but for the nourishment of the soul. A believer is restricted from nourishing their body during the day so that they may create a higher awareness of Allah. This element of taqwa is closely linked to ihsan - the worship of Allah as though one can see Him, or that Allah is watchful over him. 

The body has been created from the dust of this Earth and will return to it. Its nourishment also comes from the soil of this Earth. The spirit, however, is from the heavens and therefore its nourishment has also been placed in the heavens. In this manner, believers divert their attention from their bodies so that they may focus on their souls.

It is part of complete faith for a believer to have love for the Prophet ﷺ to the extent that he should love him more than himself, his family and the rest of mankind. This love should not just be in a person’s speech, but should also be reflected in their actions and obedience to the Prophet ﷺ. People tend to make sacrifices when in love, often sacrificing the connection they had with others. The highest form of love is detailed in this talk as explained by Allah and his Rasool ﷺ. 

Love for an individual usually means that a person loves everything associated to the beloved. For this reason a person should be careful where they place their love so that it leads them towards Allah and not away from him.

Every prophet has been sent like a father to their nation in order to guide them towards Allah. Their care and concern for their ummah comes from a place of love and responsibility rather than that of authority. Many of these examples have been brought in the Quran, showing the words used by these messengers despite the responses of their people. 

The Prophet’s ﷺ compassion for his ummah exceeded that of the previous messengers. He wished for everyone to believe and attain success in the hereafter, which is why he did not waste any opportunity to speak to people and call them towards Allah. Despite the hardships faced by the Prophet ﷺ he continued to pray for those who were misguided and showed compassion even to his enemies.

This talk concludes by demonstrating the compassion that the Prophet ﷺ will show in the akhirah and how his intercession will be accepted by Allah. The least of our responsibilities is that we send salutations to him out of respect for his sacrifices and concern for his ummah.

This commentary of hadith emphasises on the need for a person to capitalise on their time before losing out. The gift of time from Allah is explained in detail and how a person should be grateful and use their time wisely. The talk does well to give warnings to those who wish to delay their time before acting on good deeds and explains how the rust of sins can affect a person over time.

Allah will question a person about their time in this world and how they used the blessings that He provided them. The barakah in time will reduce as the Day of Judgement draws near and this is explained with examples from scholars of the past.

The Virtues of the Noble Qurʾān

Millions of individuals have memorised the Qurʾān and continue to do so today. This unique method of preservation is an unchanged tradition stretching back to the Prophet ﷺ and the angel Jibril. This talk explains how the aspects of words, meanings and recitation of the Qurʾān is all from Allah and preserved by him, in contrast to everyday language. 

This talk also details the honour shown to a Hafiz of the Qurʾān as demonstrated by the Prophet ﷺ and Umar and goes on further to explain the superiority of memorising the Qurʾān compared to other goals in life. This goal will cause a Hafiz of the Qurʾān to excel in the eyes of Allah in this life and enjoy benefits given to him on the Day of Resurrection.

Memorising the Qurʾān is made easy by Allah and very possible with the correct methodology and this in turn can make the Qurʾān blend with our day to day activities as the best form of dhikr. Finally, there is strong emphasis on not compelling children in hifz but encouraging them in other ways.

The companions displayed immense love for the Prophet ﷺ and this talk demonstrates the depth of this love with many examples. It becomes clear that the companions loved the Prophet ﷺ more than anyone else, including themselves, and preferred his own happiness and well-being over anyone else's. 

The companions loved the Prophet ﷺ not only as a friend or family member, but as the Messenger of Allah. The love of Abu Bakr is specifically mentioned, as well as a wide range of other companions, including the wives. At times the manifestations of their love can be difficult to comprehend, but this talk explains the context behind their actions and how they would have preferred no other option.

The talk further mentions the reverence that the companions had for the Prophet ﷺ and the support they willingly gave. The fear of the Prophet ﷺ leaving them and the shock at his demise is also explained. The talk finishes with how their love and longing for him continued after his death, and how they were comforted by knowing that they can be reunited with him after death.

The Prophet's ﷺ Love for his Companions

This talk shows how the Prophet ﷺ had a great impact on the Sahaba and how they loved him in return without any wealth influencing them. Given this love from the Sahaba and the Prophet’s ﷺ unique character, it would have been inconceivable that he wouldn't requite this love. His love for them was both explicitly expressed and manifested by weeping. It was for all Muslims; regardless of age, family or tribe. This is shown by his love of the Ansar despite them being from rival tribes to his. 

The Prophet's ﷺ love was also shown towards the children and the weak, despite it being difficult to feign love for such people. Special focus is placed on his love of Usamah ibn Zayd, who was both a child and from slave descent. Examples of loving relationships with Abu bakr and Umar are also mentioned. Given his love for all Muslims, the talk makes us understand how stingy we are if we do not send salaat and salaam over the Prophet ﷺ.
