This Machine Builds Fascists is about how I feel capitalism has led to a sense of global insecurity which has resulted in a surge of right wing populist thought which verges on fascism.

Orlando (HWV 31) is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel written for the King's Theatre in London in 1733. The Italian libretto was adapted from Carlo Sigismondo Capece's L'Orlando after Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso.

Special thanks goes to my fabulous vocal coach Helen Roberts for providing the full orchestral experience.

The Plot

Orlando, a great knight in Charlemagne's army, falls desperately in love with the pagan princess Angelica, who is in turn in love with another man, Medoro. Orlando cannot accept this and he is driven to madness, prevented from causing absolute carnage only by the magician Zoroastro who eventually restores his sanity.

In the aria "Sorge Infausta Una Procella" (An inauspicious tempest rises) Zoroastro tries to mend the circumstances that have caused Orlando to go insane. He declares that it is possible for Orlando's sorrow to one day become his greatest joy.
