My family has deep generational roots in Georgia, including Irwinton, Gordon, Macon, Milledgeville, and Montezuma. My father was a dentist, and his father was a railway engineer for the Central of Georgia Railway for over 33 years. My mother raised 4 kids and taught Sunday School at Wieuca Road Baptist Church. Her father took over raising his family of 9 at the age of 18, after his father died in a shootout in downtown Milledgeville. This left a deep imprint on my family about the importance of living up to responsibilities.
I was born in Macon, but my family moved to Atlanta in 1955. After attending public schools in Atlanta, I attended Vanderbilt University before transferring to the College of William & Mary. In 1977, I completed my Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance.
After several years in various corporate positions in the United States and Europe, I brought my family back to Atlanta in 1986 to begin an investment firm (Equity Investment Corporation) from a spare bedroom in my house.  The firm now manages approximately $5 billion for clients across the United States. 
The firm's core investment philosophy has been that the key to long term investment success is avoiding significant losses.  Thus, it is not surprising that the firm's growth was spurred by the steep market losses in 2001-2002 and 2008, when we performed well for clients. But to do so, we had to stand against the Wall Street crowds who were driving prices too high in the 1990's, and then ignoring banking risks in the mid-2000's.

I am not a politician. But I've learned the importance of standing firm when things don't make sense, so I feel I have a responsibility to do something today.  Regardless of one's ideology, we can all agree the irresponsible and reckless policies from Washington have gone on too long.   Businesses can't grow when incomes are declining from lack of high-paying jobs, and neither can families.  Firms that don't invest in people tend to be firms that stop growing, and I see this happening in America today.
Meanwhile, to compensate for poor policies, the Federal Reserve creates money to artificially keep interest rates low. This has created another financial bubble where those with money (except seniors living on their savings) get richer, while workers and students face limited opportunities.  Even worse, neither our companies nor our government are prepared for the costs society will bear when interest rates return to historically normal levels. So, as bad as things seem today, they may get worse before they get better. It is time we changed course, and that is why I am in this campaign.
Our problems were created in Washington as Congress deregulated financial markets to please Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, agreed to trade deals that cost American's high-paying jobs, and wrote legislation preventing our government from negotiating with drug companies for lower prices on our behalf.  Meanwhile, due to wasteful spending on unnecessary wars abroad and underinvestment at home, our debt has soared while our growth has slowed. And if there is anything I cannot stand, it is wasteful spending and poor investments. It is time for new policies that benefit the many, and not just large corporations.

Uploading some old stuff for fun/posterity/'5 minutes of fame' etc.
Did some of these back in late 80's using a Casio home keyboard (hence the drum sound!), guitar and a Tascam 244 Portastudio.
These recordings are taken from an original stereo master mixdown from the portastudio to a TDK normal D60 tape. Dolby C was applied in the original mixdown.
There where a number of dropouts that I have reduced so some songs may seem to ‘skip’. I EQ’ed some of the songs as they had become muffled over the years.
Others done in 90's early 2000's using a variety of equipment but ALL done in me bedroom/living room!

A teardrop falls…..,

I'm suspended between myself and I looking down or is it up a long brightly lit tunnel. At the foremost of this tunnel is a sign it reads “ FUTURE”. It is very large and out of proportion.

I feel a presence behind me like someone lurking in a dark corner waiting to jump out at me. I turn. Another tunnel confronts me. This time dark. I can't tell how long or short it is. Slowly I begin to make out a sign at the entrance, in proportion this time. It reads “ PAST” and then disappears.  A time passes…………………....,



………………………………………………………..and it becomes obvious to me that I have to move from where I'm standing as I'm drowning in my thoughts. I consider for a moment, tick tock, tick tock, look at the hands on the clock. I'm choosing and happenings are happening in the dark tunnel. I stare deeply, to deeply.

Someone's laughing, or crying, or laughing and crying at the same time. He seems to have no face, no purpose, no life yet he seems alive, barely, and familiar. It hurts me. He's naked and cold and is stopping people asking them for warmth. Some stop and give him warmth, but they burn him after.

He cries, or is it laughs harder.

He gets burned until he's just one big white burn, so becoming immune to being burned. He calls himself Fire. Fire walks for a while and comes upon a robin red breast. Its feathers are stuck together with frost and its beak is broken. It has only one leg to stand on, and this is sprained. Altogether it's just a little bit down and out! Fire is filled with pity for the robin red breast so with all good intentions he lifts it, gingerly, to bring it to his home and mend it but to his horror it bursts into flames. He cries for what he has done and his tears quench the flames. The robin filled with love and gratification towards Fire for putting out the flames, thanks him. Fire kisses the robin, but again it bursts into flames and again Fire cries so putting out the flames. The robin red breast is dead. Fire cries and puts himself out.

I jump back feeling rather warm and sweating a bit. My mind is made up (of little bits of mattering). I choose to delve into the brightly lit tunnel avoiding the horrors of the dark tunnel, which seemed to linger in my mind like mattering, flattering, chattering too much again.

Putting these feelings into the cesspits of my memory I step forward onto the doorstep or tunnel step of a new thought. At this moment a clock without any hands says to me “ that's right boy forget the past move forward”. I smile and my face breaks into pieces.

As this happens I feel some force behind me and I'm pushed and I find myself at a cross tunnels. The tunnel to the right has a steep staircase leading up which is laid with deep pile carpet. At the summit of the staircase there is a brilliant white light making everything look like a Daz advertisement. The tunnel to the left has a smooth slide leading down into a darkness darker than black. I think to myself “ it's easy to go when you don’t know, whose leading the show ”. After all that's happened I'm feeling rather tired so I don't like the look of the staircase. I jump onto the slide and WHIZZ. Slowly I stop suddenly and I seem to be engulfed in a mysterious not colour. I think “I'm dead” but just then a fork says to me “not likely son, you're being paid for what you've done!”.
Someone I've never seen before touches me and I seem to recognise him as an old friend.
“ Hel-low-er than the sea”. His words don't make sense to me, but I know what to answer, I always did but the answer was hid. Now I've seen the show I wish to go. This idea lingers on my tongue until it is cut out and I'm left speechless, dumbfounded as they say. My old friend turns out to be called “ Desire”. He takes me down or is it up a passageway and there at THE END or is it the start of it he introduces me to a thing person called Fire. I seem to recall this thing person from an existence now lost to me. I shake his hand and he disappears taking with him everything around me. But I can still see it all as I wipe it away from my eye, but another teardrop will fall by and by.

The avocado’s swing 
    Music has been always a constant jamming between musicians from diverse tendencies, social groups and musical stiles. The members of the full throttle band Quinto Aguacate are always looking forward to find new genres of Caribbean sounds, searching in cities and country sides , avoiding the common place of most folklorists with their mannered musical compositions of cult purity and boring Neo – folklore, made to please the taste of the new worldly “light way of life”, while the music of real expression made in villages and city suburbs pales away waiting for the moment to irrupt in the mass media nets, loaded with a character of constant experimentation and eclectic interpretations, due to the changing dynamics in Venezuelan society, where whisky and rum mixes along in order to dance reguetón, where folklore and rock and roll get mix together with the rhythm of sacred drums; a characteristically symbiosis of an oil rent driven society where things come to stay , a horizon of events surrounding a hollow oil barrel open to multi cultural sounds.
    The name of this quintet derives from the avocado tree (aguacate) used all over Venezuela to make big drums out of its hollow dry trunk, an emblematic instrument used by Quinto Aguacate in most of its eclectic compositions, always transcending new frontiers –according to Edgar Moreno lead vocalist and flute player of the band “all kind of music and sound are suitable for transformations and experimentation, therefore we are heirs of the salsa Brava, the heavy metal, the furious atonalism, we are sibling of the drums, tuned up by fire, lovers of the music of Bach and the colombians corraleros del Majagual, defining our music as “LATA LATINA” a mixture of heavy metal and hard core salsa with Venezuelan drum beats. We are also descendents of Mozart, El gran combo from Puerto Rico and everything that can be transformed into music”
    The band is made up of musicians from different musical currents; Edgar Moreno photographer, anthropologist and classical flute player is the leading vocalist who sings rock and salsa music in the way santeros and afro-descendant folklore singers expresses themselves; Alex Huizi, a brilliant sound engineer who can quite well hit the electric bass with a Venezuelan deep drum sound; Carlos Almaral, a student of ethnomusicology and virtuoso electric guitar player; José Estraño, a motorcycle expert, a pizza delivery boy during the day and an astonishing drummer and timbal player by nite; and his son, Aaron Estraño, a conga player and back slapper gifted student of Afro-Venezuelan percussion. Most of them come from the slum areas located on steep hills and low middle class neighborhoods, in a constant flux riding along the contradictory symbolism of the urban stairs, (the further up you are the worst you are treated). More steps to go up, climbing with heavy gas bottles on the shoulder, while broken elevators make difficult escaping from the many armed thug gangs, always menacing at the improvised “alcabalas” (check point), located at the bottom of the stairs.
    Quinto Aguacate..s compositions are always leading toward a concept of extensive lyrics in the matter of a new protest song style, accompanied by the out of tune Roncadelia Choir, an experience compared to that of the venezuelan variety t.v. show: “El concurso millonario” where a hooded hangman “El señor de la trompeta” (the trumpet man) blows his horn every time a participant sings out of tune, making all the rejected participants suitable fans of Quinto Aguacate since the band asserts that all humans have the natural capability of singing as well as walking or drawing. The group discovers new ways of music by adopting “bluders” in music as virtues, repeating them over and over until they become “suitable experimental sounds for the ears” They also take into consideration popular slang and the way people talk in the country side as a cult way of expression, using it as an effective tool to mess with and ruffle up the feathers of Venezuelans creating musical pieces like 20 kilos 500, a song dedicated to fat people to accept their natural physical conditions. Another song Machete cannibal, depicts ours anthropophagi inheritance, trapped in the body of a cannibal teenager. A censured human phenomenon present in all societies abroad -Rueda de pescado , Round fish - not exactly the one we eat - but the ambushes performed by the low bike riders to common people on the high ways of Caracas. Songs like Cuaima virgen and mil caras, refers to the way salsero musicians always sing to misogyny. A chant to nature is reflected in Cacao y yuca a tribute to the Venezuelan land and two of the main original crops that make up the cultural Venezuelan culinary, overtaken by chocolate bars, refined flours and emblematic symbols of the fast food culture.
    Quinto aguacate performs mainly on the streets and during social communities campaigns in the slums areas of Caracas. Their shows are complemented with graphic campaigns that create consciousness about the pollution of the rivers.. basins and how to deal with the problematic of garbage and debris irresponsible driven by the Venezuelan society. It is December the 23 , rockets, Ben Laden fire crackers and other kinds of assorted fires mix their banging noises with the distorted sounds of the electric guitars, basses and percussion of Quinto Aguacate and many other bands during the annual meeting party given by the inhabitants of the popular suburb El Placer de Maria in Baruta, Caracas to honor their local band, Quinto Aguacate, celebrating the fact of having its own renowned and experimental music band which belongs to a generation of artists who have put forward all their effort to keep the music alive and up to date, in the main stream of Venezuelan new music.
    Venezuela is a country of water; it holds one of the world's largest reservoirs of this prime liquid. One of Quinto Aguacte's main actions during its public performances are based on a social compromise towards their fans, calling the attention upon one of Venezuelan’s society most unattended problem: the environmental contamination near the river’s basins; product of public carelessness, as well as industries and the unaware actions on the use and care of fresh water among the dwellers cohabiting near the river..s banks. Therefore, Quinto Aguacate had set during their concerts and social- cultural interchanges a graphic and ideological campaign based on public posters, containing information about this critical problem by using phrases based on local traditional songs as slogans, and documentary photography dealing with cultural facts of the villages and towns where the band does its performances, changing the commercial and yet traditional values of public and commercial adds and posters by an affective-social campaign that reflects the closest reality of the local dwellers, leaving an educative message and sowing consciousness about the consequences of environmental contamination and a graphic memoire of the happy and enliven moments cheered between the public and the full throttle band, Quinto Aguacate.
