Happy October! It may be time for spooks and scares, but for me it's time for another song. This song is a little bit special. It marks my first song to have vocals in a long long time. I used vocaloid 3's IA for a few songs years ago, but now it's time for something new.

As I was writing this song, I was never happy with the melody instrumentation I had and I kept telling myself I could fix it as I continue working on the song. Spoiler alert, I never did. As I completed the song I listened back to the whole thing again and decided I just didn't like the instrumental. So... what to do?  I decided it would work better with a singer, but since I can't install my old copy of IA (via CD) I had to find something soon so I could release the song.

So here comes Natsuki Karin via Synthesizer V. I wanted to try this software before, and I must say, it really impressed me. The software runs pretty well and while it may not be as sophisticated as the vocaloid software, I found the sound bank for Karin to be incredibly well done right out of the box. Very little to no tweaking required to produce a good sounding voice. This, thankfully allowed me to write lyrics for a song originally without them in a... admittedly short amount of time as the 1st was literally a day away.

In any case, I ended up quite impressed and ended up making changes to the song to support the change to a singer. I once again learned how it's pretty cool that something you didn't like can change into something you do with just some quick thinking, easy to use tools, and a little extra love.

Can't Come Back

Happy November! This month brings in a new song with Natsuki Karin once again on vocals. I've been having fun exploring the singing styles available and I want to keep trying to get the best sounding vocals out of the singer.

The track for this month is a bit of a mix, like most of my songs. This time it's a bit of pop with a small infusion of jazz. I wanted to break out the band horns and bright piano again but also add a little bit of a darker harmony with the doom drone and guitars to help offset the bright woodwinds and piano. This is also reflected a little bit in the melody and rhythm of the lyrics as the theme around the song is focused on the vice of gambling and always finding yourself in a casino.

Overall I think it's a fun piece with a little trouble getting started (I went through a lot iterations on the opening and still couldn't quite find the best way to tackle it), but finds it's legs after that and gives a strong beat with some fun highlights.

Started on this project after diplo revolution liked my last track but didn’t think it would suit there radio station. I stayed up a couple nights studying his songs wrote down the mathematical template of his formula. Created my own beat, used a similar style. Then hired studio pros to record a badass violin. At the end had my college KMG master it. The power of being a try hard will get you far. Rock on listeners.
