Techno session 03/11/22

EPM Podcast 159 is a totally upfront new techno mix from Token Records’ head man, Kr!z. Led by deeply hypnotic grooves, syncopated rhythms and reverberating atmospheres, his DJ style teases the collective, driving minimal beats into a heady cauldron of volcanic funk. Bringing together such electronic luminaries as Marcelo Antonio, Altinbas & Cirkle, Oscar Mulero, Robert Hood, The Advent, Mike Parker, Norbak, Border One, Isabel Soto and several of his new studio productions (including the soon to be released ‘Atlantis’), Kr!z shows us why both he and Token have been at the forefront of techno for the last 15 years.   

After making a name for himself as a skilled DJ with sharp focus and a quick mixing style in home country Belgium and the Netherlands, Kr!z launched Token Records in 2007. It has since been a leading outlet for heady, purist sounds. He rapidly established the label as a fixed value with a timeless and powerful sound and took it around the world with label nights on every continent. Token remains important in defining techno today - always straightforward, sometimes weird, often catchy – all under the helm of Kr!z as avid A&R.

After 12 years spent assiduously focused on curating the Token discography, showcasing artists he has nurtured and supported over this time, and incorporating the connoisseur’s knowledge and experience he has cultivated in his work as a DJ, 2019 saw the release of his long-awaited debut EP on Token. ‘Mantra’ received high acclaim by both media and the scene's key DJ’s. This continued in 2020, when he released the track ‘Scorpion’s Tail’ on Voltage Imprint and ‘Malice’ & ‘Imperative Needs’ as part of a split EP with Pfirter on his MindTrip label. 2022 will be his most prolific year to date with three full EPs seeing the light of day: ‘Neutrino EP’ on James Ruskin’s Blueprint Records, ‘The Tunnel’ on Setaoc Mass’ hotshot SK_eleven and a third one on his own Token Records.

Kr!z’s new EP ‘Atlantis’ is released 25 November on Token.

Based in Athens, WLM is a DJ and producer, as well as an active member or the Greek electronic music scene under various aliases.
Throughout the years he has performed in Athens most important nightclubs and festivals, such as ADD 2018, under the Invisible People alias. Additionally, he is a key member of the Overdriven team.
While focusing on more dance-floor oriented music, he always tries to offer a fresh, personal approach.
In late 2020 he released track Vibrasphere for Koslif Records, and in 2021 Fervent for Semantica Records, alongside Artificial Drm.

Installé depuis sa naissance dans le sud de la France, à proximité d’Arles, il n’a jamais caché
l’importance qu’il attache à la nature. Le clip réalisé pour Emotion le mettait déjà en scène au milieu
des oliveraies qu’il exploite avec sa famille pour la production d’huile. 
On y découvre l’artiste tel qu’il se décrit lui même : 
un homme passionné de nature et de machines analogiques.

C’est le déferlement de l’acid house anglaise à la fin des années 1980 qui initie sa passion pour les musiques électroniques.
La découverte des sonorités de l’époque, sa curiosité et l’envie de faire danser l’encourage à mixer dès 1993.

Producteur depuis 1995, il signe sa première sortie en 2000 sur le label Scandium Records, qu'il a fondé avec son Ami.

Paul Nazca multiplie les sorties et s’impose au cours des années 2000 comme l’une des figures de proue de la techno hexagonale. Ses productions remarquées sortent ainsi sur de nombreux labels : Spielzeug, BPitch Control ou Boxer. En 2006, il signe une sortie sur F… U ! FCOM, le label dancefloor de F-Communication, mythique maison fondée par Laurent Garnier et Eric Morand.

En 2011, il fonde le label Sign industry avec Florian Combe et Maxime Dangles.
Il organise dès 2010 les « Secretes » dans son village. Les spécificités de ces événements sont nombreuses. Les Secretes ne sont pas seulement des soirées puisque le public est accueilli dès d’après-midi, pour une programmation variée, associant DJ set et live-acts.

Passionné par les machines, Paul Nazca participe activement à des événements qui leur sont dédiés. Avec Maxime Dangles, P4sc4l, Nhar, Bastard Beat, il apparait ainsi lors des Gear Syndrome. Diffusés en direct sur internet, ce rassemblement de geeks prend la forme d’improvisations à plusieurs voix. Il participe également aux Oscillations, organisées par Maxime Dangles.

Au cours des dernières années, Paul Nazca s’est fortement investi dans la construction de live-acts. Ses nombreuses collaborations sous le nom « Skryptöm collective » avec d’autres artistes du label Skryptöm l’ont en particulier rapproché de Scan X avec qui il propose un live en duo. 

Après une période au cours de laquelle il s’est fait plus discret, lorsqu’il se concentrait sur le développement d’un projet de production agricole, Paul Nazca multiplie les sorties remarquées depuis 2021. Il signe notamment un E.P. sur MBE, le label de Marco Bailey, et une nouvelle sortie sur Skryptöm.
