The recipe is at the end *BUT!* it’s actually MY sister’s Blue Ribbon county fair recipe from when we were little. She said I could share it 🤗

I love the Penderwick books and their fierce loyalty and fun! They remind me of my own siblings and our adventures growing up. 

I thought it would be a good exercise to zoom into a particular moment in the books, the making of brownies by the eldest sister for her younger siblings. 
It’s a waltz with the focus on the movements of baking in honor of the two sisters who love music and dance. 
But there are measurements for the sister who loves math. 
And for the sister who writes, the chorus zooms back out into the narrative of their sibling-hood. 

The Penderwick Family Honor. Better together, together forever.

The Door Never Opened Before

This song tells the story of my Uncle John York trying to win back my aunt Jenny's heart after cheating on her. They were married.  He wrote the words came to my mom and aunts band practice one night and asked to sing his words.  My mom and Aunts band were called "The Fedorow Sisters" they are originally from Humbult Park Chicago. Their parents Peter and Mary Fedorow were Ukrainian immigrants my grandfathers family owned a farm in Lviv and my grandmothers family were farm hands . I found the song on a old album they recorded in or around about 1952 live and have been singing it since.  The original has my uncle singing and the girls backing him up. I have had it published but the credit goes to my family before my time.  Its a beautiful song.
