Michael Plater is a U.K-based Australian experimental/folk/psych/indie/noir musician and multi-instrumentalist. His first two solo albums “Exit Keys” (2012) and “Mythologies” (2016) received world-wide critical acclaim, with “Mythologies” being re-released in expanded form in the U.K in 2018 through cult British folk/psyche/drone label Reverb Worship. In recent years, he has also released music on such labels as Hypostatic Union (U.K), Dub Cthonic (U.K), Woodford Halse (U.K), Hibernate (U.K), Laily Recordings (U.K), and More Than Folk Records (France).

Michael has also played in the U.K-based dark folk ensemble GhostShips, the ambient project Ghosts of Electricity, the Gothic soundscapes act The Northern Lighthouse Board, Melbourne garage rockers The Exit Keys, and folkloric collective Cornish Wreckers. 

His acclaimed new solo album, “Ghost Music,” is out now on Hypostatic Union.

In the early years of the entity's quest to find God, it was the Soul Merchant who came upon to ponder questions such as, "If all energy contains consciousness, then all energy contains information. Energy would then be data and information which rides a wave. Would it be possible to attach multi-dimensional symbols of healing properties, intent and focus via the Observer onto a track? Aim: 
Of experience and observation to absorb a varied range of vibrational photons, phonons and electrons through a non-stationary singular point in the universe.
To reflect, explore and design through inspirations arisen from experiences and observations, both real and virtual constructs, to take command of mind-electrons and transcribe them to musical equipment interfaces; convert them to phonons and reflect back into mind electrons and gradually produce phonons that match my designs (annoy neighbours) and finally convert back to electrons that travel to sound-cloud. Where I/you can at any time convert the electrons to phonons yet again either approvingly or disapprovingly and hopefully observe and experience the universe in a new way but probably annoy the neighbours some more.


It is because of love that Solo Frey feels disgusted by "The Human".
He loathes him and yet still cares a little.
He wants him to be pure.
He wishes to redraw him in his own image.
"The Human" and he are one. It is what he calls himself. It is what increases the life-ache that settles in him and consumes him.
A story,
The story of a human-being staring at himself, exploring different stages (observation, hope, isolation etc…)
Solo Frey is ill-at-ease because of what "The Human" is. He suffers from feeling powerless. He cannot change the least bit of negative particle lying at the heart of the human race from where he stems.
He tries to explain his uneasiness but he's either not heard or misunderstood.
He's awkward, he skips, drifts, and he knows it.
Everything appears to be so impossible to Solo Frey that he dies.
This album, made of 8 songs, came out of a disturbed mind,
It was born out of the tormented soul of a man who searches, finds, but loses himself endlessly.
In Solo Frey's mind, to end it by committing suicide in a psychiatric ward becomes a natural solution to achieve freedom.

Saviorself is a play on words representing the ability to save oneself from the brink of insanity and capture the very essence of a positive mind state. Stemming from Waterville, ME with my roots in underground/local hip-hop, I strive to produce metaphorical lyrics collaborated with a positive vibe to discover and dismantle any and all subliminal imagery blinding folks from the truth that is right under their nose. 19 years of age, I have been writing lyrics since high school began. I take careful observation and analysis, and apply it to every day life with a copious design.
