Assembled by sound designer and artist, Maria Emilia Vidal Perez, PROT0.sPHER3 is a sound collage initiated by a set of question posited by the artist:

What is reality? a superposition of layers and living multi-organisms in full construction and decomposition of materiality. Sound is the breadth and expansion of the visions generated by beings that coexist in multiple places in the world and cosmos. Where do we want to go as living beings? What do we want to achieve with all this energy that overflows day by day, to subsist, and to survive? PR0To.sPHER3 is the beginning and the end, the breathing in and out of existence itself. From the micro-organic towards the macro-digitality and sound and visual multi-ecosystems of the individual and collective imagination.

INSECTS AND BIRDS IN THE COLOMBIAN ANDES
This long soundscape features the vibrant sound-signature of an upland forest in the northern Colombian Andes.  The woodland was alive with songs, calls, and stridulations.
I made the recording in January 2013, somewhere above the little Andean town of San Vincente.
I was armed with my customary Sennheiser MKH30/50 MS rig, into  SD702 running at 48kHz-24Bits.

Atlantic Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus) at Donna Nook National Nature Reserve, Lincolnshire.

With hundreds of cows and pups only a few metres away from the coastal path it was possible to record at levels that helped reduce the roar of surf and unwanted noises from shipping. 

Recorded at 1am on the 7th December 2015 with a pair of MKH40’s arranged ORTF into a SD MixPre and 702.


Seal Sounds at Donna Nook

This entry won the Habitat section in the 2015 WSRS Recording Competition. It was also awarded the Silver Fox Trophy for best recording. 

These 2-minutes were selected from a 2-hour recording, made with a pair of MKH406’s arranged ORTF in a homemade wind cage placed on a tripod in the reed bed. The recorder used was a Fostex FR-2LE. 

The marsh was at Barrage Imi-N-Laârba, near the town of Aït Ouri, 50km from Marrakesh. As well as crickets, the main species heard are the deeper-voiced Berber Toads (Amietophrynus mauritanicus), Sahara Frog (Pelophyllax saharicus) and the rasping sounds of Mediterranean Tree Frogs (Hyla meridionalis).
