Opening track, Heavens Gate, is a Strawbs-like, short acoustic intro before the restrained, gruff power of their popular Ballade Of Timothy Leary sets this album on its course. With their influences sticking their heads out all over this album, Black Eyed Susan still sound original and confident. Besides their stirring Leary tribute, theres the Elvis is God reference in the emotional kitchen-sink drama of Graceland, a Ginger Baker drums reference (but nothing else remotely similar to Cream) on White Room and their awesome (and very timeous) heavy rock version of Hate Street Dialogue off Rodriguez Cold Fact.

Lost Love is loud and sensitive (really!) and Generation X has nothing, thankfully, to do with Billy Idol. Instead it is Francois Bredenkamp adding his expressive vocals to a cool rock song with lyrics that speak of the concerns of this so-described 90s confused peer group. Where did it go wrong, the day that the winds of change blew my generation into no mans land. This hard-working and wonderfully-focused band has the ability to be both retro and currently aware, and this bodes well for its future as one of South Africa's most exciting rock bands. The only black eye on this album is on poor old Susan!

This hard-rocking Johannesburg band formed as a five-piece in February 1996. Francois Bredenkamp, the voice and driving force behind the band recruited Hilton Inez (Guitar), Sydney O'Grady (bass), Zack Bach (drums) and namesake Dries (guitar). After some opening gigging and writing, the band recorded their first demo in August. These three songs – 'Alone Again', ' The Ballade Of Timothy Leary' and 'Generation X' – received good radio play and positive feedback. In 1997 the band combined some live recordings with some unreleased studio material and released the 'Live In A White Room' demo which built on the success of their earlier release and sold well at their many Gauteng appearances. Vaughan Klibbe then joined as their new bass player and another four-track demo was recorded by Paul Destifani at the B# Studios.

The band then spent the early part of 1998 recording, mixing, pressing, conceptualising and distributing their first full album, 'Back Stabbers And Money Grabbers'. The album spawned more radio charters and the band launched into a series of thundering and acclaimed concerts to promote the album. Hilton Inez moved on and Vaughn Klibbe took over on guitar with Cloete van Wyk joining on bass. Jose Cuervo put their faith in the band with a generous sponsorship, and a new EP and national tour are on the cards for 1999.

Born a music junkie in New York’s infamous Spanish Harlem, DJ Jerry Ferrer savors the recollection of growing up surrounded by live Latin, Reggae &amp; Calypso music in the streets around him. Passing up the usual assortment of toys as a toddler, Jerry preferred to spin the covers of his Mom’s cooking pots (DJ Jerry mentions that a Santeria Witch Doctor once told him that his spirit was entranced by two spinning silver wheels). 
At the age of five, while being babysat by his Teen Cousin, DJ Jerry recalls how he understood which records to play for her and her friends by looking at the label art on the 45s, so when the shades went down and the red light came on, he knew exactly which jams to play.
Influenced by his Dad’s Spanish guitar playing and great collection of 78 RPM discs, his Mom’s devotion to the old Latin classics playing on AM radio every Sunday, and his Sister’s love of R&amp;B and fusion, how could DJ Jerry not venture into all things MUSIC. “I remember as a kid, listening to records over and over again, every time I would focus on a single instrument, bass, piano, horns, etc., until I knew the whole arrangement inside out!” , “I didn’t realize till later that I had inadvertently learned how to arrange music by doing that”. Hearing family friend Angela Bofil dissect the vocal harmonies of soul groups such as the Stylistics and Delfonics was another revelation that didn’t sink in until he started arranging music and realized he could put together harmonies with ease.
In 1973, DJ Jerry started mixing vinyl by hard wiring two turntables together and learning to silently drop and pickup the needle in the grooves. By 1978, after playing at all the neighborhood parties and surviving a string of social clubs and firetraps all over Harlem and the South Bronx, DJ Jerry was doing stints as house DJ at many Latin Discos such as the Chez Sensual and Epiphany’s which finally led to gigs at some of the hottest Clubs of the time.
In the early eighties, DJ Jerry teamed up with the late, great Emcee Eddie Loose Moose Gonzalez and was doing mobile gigs all over The New York and New Jersey area. It was at that point that DJ Jerry started creating sophisticated Master Mixes for his gigs and for radio stations in New York City such as the original 92 WKTU. “I thought I couldn’t afford a reel to reel tape deck to do the work on, so I learned to splice segments together using the pause button on a pair of old cassette decks and used them to do dubs”. 
In the late eighties, DJ Jerry teamed up with Harlem’s DJ Bob Moss. Together, they produced the House Anthem “Baby let me love you for tonight” sung by the artist “Kariya”. Asked about his inspiration for the track, DJ Jerry says “I wrote this song after having been at this club called THE WORLD. I was upstairs in the V.I.P. area hanging out with some record industry people and was introduced to some very hot, gorgeous young ladies who were looking for record deals. One of those young ladies - - -I remember thinking “so this is a Jeep Freak!”, she was offering to give me the most incredible night for a chance to get a record deal. I don’t remember all the B.S. she hit me with, but I’ll never forget the feral look in her eyes when she hit me with the line “let me love you for the night”, I couldn’t get that out of my head and the rest is history. We were originally tasked by Sleeping Bag Records to produce a Latin Freestyle track for Kariya but DJ Bob had the brilliant idea to do the B-Side as a House track. I’m a big fan of Vince Montana and all the SalSoul and MFSB stuff, and I had delusions of grandeur in wanting to put together this big fat orchestrated track. I wanted to get a smooth groove going like MFSB’s great “Love is the message” break. I think I got that feel in my Rhodes piano riff and was working on this big orchestra arrangement when it hit me that what I really needed to do was spotlight Kariya’s amazing voice, not my feeble arranging skills. DJ Bob had discovered Kariya at an Appollo amateur night and worked tirelessly to get her signed. This small, little lady had the most incredible vocal power and the sweetest tone. Anyway, I stripped the arrangement down to the bare essentials to let her voice shine. I feel we coaxed an incredible vocal performance out of Kariya, she actually made my cheesy lyrics sound grand”.

A little Master Mix I did of all the early hip hop Rap work of the 70's & early 80's. And a little smooth R-N-B mix I did for my own relaxation.

Hull based funky folk singer songwriter John Cox - groove based acoustic guitar playing is at the core of his songs, and his unique chords provide him with a very distinctive style. Early influences were the strange folk of Bowie and the weird funk of Talking Heads. His sound is dark and soulful with hooky melodies and poetic lyrics.

Just having fun with these lemme know what you think. They're all rough cuts, demos for now, just  skeletons with no guts. I put songs up  here purely  to see the feedback I receive so please honestly lemme know what you think.

The WrinklePickers are a band.  There are five of us. Two are known on the comedy circuit as Brian & Krysstal the musical comedy duo. I play guitar and sing silly songs while Krysstal rattles things and harmonises. We both write songs. We spent years playing covers in places we didn't want to be.  Now it's time to have FUN! We finally found a double bass player who likes to show off... Ian (Basswhore) Newman and Paul Eccentric, a percussionist with washboard, pots and pans and various other kitchen utensils (in fact everything but the kitchen sink)  Their poetic alter ego is  "The Antipoet"  Google them!    And finally, the criminally good lead guitar of Johnny Cash-Furgold. Our next gig is @ The Grey Horse in Kingston on Saturday 8th March 2014  It will be FUN!     Hillbilly - Rockabilly - Bluegrass - Country... ish    That's where we live.

An unlikely bunch of eccentrics hailing from both Chesterfield and Sheffield, Jukebox Memory Loss’ inspirations are drawn from an eclectic range of influences, with a strong emphasis on playful lyrics concealing deeper meaning embedded well between the lines.

Andy Madin (guitar, songwriting, vocals), Gordon Ramsay (songwriting, vocals), Simon ‘Spike’ Langley (percussion) and James Toft (bass) founded the original JML line-up in response to a struggling local music scene in 2009. Their first album (as a four-piece band), Kitchen Sink Carnival features nine original songs and was recorded and produced by Madin above a barber shop in Chesterfield.

Following the departure of Spike in early 2010 who left to travel and pursue education, Mark Upperdine (percussion) and Tom Williams (lead guitar) joined the band and quickly found their feet. The rate at which the band have worked together as a five-piece to produce a completely different sound and some brand new material has been phenomenal.

2010 was a defining year for JML, with the lads quickly working their way up from playing small pubs to some renowned venues in Sheffield. Despite work commitments, the pace showed no signs of slowing with the release of the band’s EP “Live at West St”. This was shortly followed by a music video for “Scooby Doo and the Background Frame” produced entirely by the band themselves, heavily featuring the writing and production skills of Mr Madin.

Jukebox Memory Loss took a little time out from gigs towards the end of 2010 to focus heavily on preparing new and exciting material for 2011. Already their hard work has paid off in getting through to the area finals of the UK’s “Live and Unsigned” competition, and a number of gig dates are in the diary in preparation for some original, unusual, and downright fantastic antics this year - stay tuned!

Ben Metcalf started djing in 1996 when he shared a flat with a mate who had a pair of decks. He started by playing house but was always looking for something a bit harder to sink his teeth into. It wasn't long before he heard a certain D.J called Carl Cox whose style of mixing up house, techno and hard trance blew him away. From then on he purchased more and more techno and in November 98 he promoted his first club night to celebrate his 21st b'day. The night was called Eden and it was such a success it became a monthly night in feb 99. In April 99 under the name dj Elite he won the Muzik magazine bedroom bedlam competition and was compared to the man who got him into techno Carl Cox. Eden soon became known nationwide and ran for two successful years in which time Ben played alongside Trevor Rockcliffe, C1, Fergie, Jim Masters and Rob da Bank to name a few. In 2000 he tried his hand at producing and the first thing he attempted to do was a bootleg of DJ Dan's Zipper Track. He had an acetate made and sent it to Carl Cox who charted it in his top 10 and while in America on tour played it to DJ Dan who loved it. This resulted in it being signed and released in America and then in the UK on Duty Free records. A string of remixes for major labels followed and although not his best work they were a very good learning curve. In 2003 he set up Quaquaversal Records and released his own style of techno with remixes from the likes of Stanny Franssen, Tom Hades, Ignition Technician, and Trevor Rockcliffe. In 2005 he set up his current label Indecent Grooves. This label has had releases from Trevor Rockcliffe, Ignition Technician, Brian Sanhaji, Cassilla twins and Ben himself. These releases have been supported by Dave Clarke, Carl Cox, Umek, Marco Bailey, Cave and many more. Three years on and Ben has now taken a different path in his musical career under the guise of Mac 2wo which explores his love of tech-house music and the slower, but more atmospheric, side of techno. In conjunction with his best friend and DJ, Leigh Curtis, Mac 2wo have already started their production line with Splinters, Dead Poets Society and Salamander showcasing their efforts from the studio. Even though he is only 29, Leigh Curtis' love of house and techno stems back way to the early 1990s, but it wasn't until meeting Ben at his legendary night Eden that he was able to take his love that one step further. Having joined forces with Ben under the guise of the Cassila Twins five years ago, they released "Hydragroove" a track that gained support with many techno jocks with Fergie hammering the promo live from Creamfields on Radio One. DJ bookings followed and he was regular behind the decks at now defunct night Digital, playing house in the back room. Now, having been inspired by the likes of Matthias Tanzmann, Anja Schneider, and as part of the newly-formed, Mac 2wo, Leigh is hoping for a big, but deep, 2009.

Avenue Of Heroes is a metalcore band from Rome (Italy) formed in 2008 by Lorenzo (former drummer). During their first year of activity they record a demo and manage to share stage with great Italian bands such as Upon This Dawning, Ms. White, Dufresne and Melody Fall. After some line‐up changes, in 2010 they reach the perfect balance with Manuel, Lorenzo, Valerio, Gian Luigi and Riccardo. The sound gets more aggressive and the band decides to leave the old songs behind and starts writing an album. Their live performances get great response from the public and this lets them play in Rome with Hopes Die Last and Yashin (UK). In early 2011 they record five tracks at SickBoy Studio and they manage to get signed to the Italian label This is Core. The band shoots a video for “Let This World Sink” and starts to get its name bigger in Italy. The video is a success, with thousands of views on BlankTv it manages to be aired on the Italian music tv channel Rock Tv. Thanks to this, they manage to share stage with Awaken Demons and Helia in Rome and Texas in July (USA) at Vidia Rock Club in Cesena. After a few shows played around Italy, they finish recording their album at SickBoy Studio. The album “Consequences” is out on May 2012, and together with the video of the single “Creatures” it earns great response among Italy and abroad. In August 2012 Lorenzo decides to leave the band to devote himself to work. The remaining four don’t let this accident put them down and soon find a great drummer in Danilo. After a big time spent rehearsing they manage to successfully get back on stage playing with Hawthorne Heights (USA) and The Elijah (UK). At the moment they are booking shows for 2013 and writing new stuff.
