Through a piano roll from Eugen d' Albert's performance of works of Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky, a MIDI file was made by a process, of converting images of the piano rolls into MIDI files, summarized in a paper at the International Society for Music Information Retrieval’s (ISMIR) 2019 conference in Delft, The Netherlands.  This file I rendered to an audio recording (that is) of a piano instrument.   Which I created via PIANOTEQ virtual instrument software.

The MIDI file I took directly from the research portal for piano rolls digitized through the Stanford Libraries’ collection of piano and organ rolls. As of November 2019, that includes 456 Welte-Mignon T-100 rolls (colloquially called “red welte” rolls as they typically use red paper).
