FlightOrVisibility (aka Rafael Natan) is an arts organizer, educator, and songwriter who believes that visibility is a superpower whether chosen or not. Using the violin and voice together, their music reminds us that activism is love, self-care is love, and it is our duty to express these loves. In community, you will find FlightOrVisibility doing work for Weird Folk Fest, a grassroots performance series with programming based around community needs; Make Shift Boston where they serve as the events coordinator; and as an oboist and backup singer for Anaís Azul, a Peruvian diaspora baroque pop artist who sings songs of healing. They also perform as part of Petting Kazoo, a queer multi-instrumentalist classical-folk cross-over duo, and are the founder of the Boston Artists Employment Network.

New England Conservatory educates and trains musicians of all ages from around the world, drawing on the talent and deep reservoir of experience of our distinguished faculty. We are dedicated to inculcating the highest standards of excellence and nurturing individual artistic sensibility and creative growth. Understanding that music is one of the transcendent expressions of human civilization, NEC aspires to ensure it a central place in contemporary society. Additionally, we present over 1,000 free concerts a year in our world class performance spaces which include historic Jordan Hall.

Gunther Schuller founded this innovative program in 1973 to explore the "third stream" that is formed when the streams of classical music and jazz are creatively combined. Under the leadership of Ran Blake, a MacArthur Fellow, the program has evolved to embrace a rich palette of world music forms.

Our faculty come from a broad range of stylistic backgrounds, with collective expertise in jazz, 20th-century composition, Jewish folk styles, and North Indian classical music. Master musicians from various world music traditions regularly visit for studio instruction, masterclasses, and concerts. Our program is one of the few places in the world where one can absorb and synthesize the music of other cultures in a personal and creative way.
