Long days and warm nights
Laughter carried through the breeze
Summer sings to us

Trenise Ferreira is a Jamaican-American writer who has been telling stories her entire career: as a college football journalist, a publicist at Walt Disney World Resort, and currently as a corporate communications professional and children’s book author.

When Trenise was in third grade, her teacher said that she should write books when she grew up – and Mrs. Buckner got it right! Wonder and imagination are at the heart of Trenise’s stories, creating worlds where children can get lost between the pages, laugh, and learn along the way.

An active member of the SCBWI Los Angeles chapter, Trenise is also a graduate of the Children’s Book Academy and The Voice Roadmap writing programs. She was selected as an inaugural mentee for the 2022 Picture Book Rising Stars program and is currently a 2023 We Need Diverse Books mentee.

In the quiet recesses of her thoughts, Sylvia stumbled upon a revelation that would unravel the fabric of her existence. It wasn't a sudden epiphany, but, more, a gradual realization that the locus of her pleasure lay hidden within the confines of her nasopharynx.

At first, she dismissed it as an odd quirk of her anatomy, a peculiar facet of her being. Yet, as days turned to weeks, months and years, Sylvia found herself delving deeper into the enigma that was her newfound source of delight.

Eventually she questioned the very essence of pleasure, wondered if her friends felt the same, and pondered the possibility that the entire world secretly shared in this clandestine delight - just past the depths of their nasal fossae.

In the twilight of introspection, Sylvia's imagination toyed with the notion of extraterrestrial interference. Could cosmic rays be the ethereal messengers, beaming signals directly to her mesolimbic system?

Was she unwittingly part of an experiment, nothing more than a plaything subjected to such vast overstimulation that it verged upon rapturous and morbid termination?

The boundaries of reality blurred as Sylvia explored the labyrinthine corridors of her pharyngeal recess. Her days became a symphony of internal sensations, eventually finding pleasure in no other form. 

But even as Sylvia tiptoed on the precipice of ecstasy, the question of her mortality lingered. Could this peculiar connection to pleasure be the prelude to an inevitable demise?

Were the cosmic forces that orchestrated her pleasure also the architects of her mortality? Had she been chosen to demonstrate the catastrophic outcome of perpetual pleasure?

Sylvia marveled at the cosmic dance within her. She embraced her new destiny, for though she was but a singular thread, woven into the tapestry of existence, that thread fed like a Möbius strip directly back to Ms. Sylvia Rosenmüller’s nasopharynx... Pharynx.
