Bandol, a little city on the french riviera. During a sunny day just before lunch time. Tourists are relaxed.

The "charmette". 
Chapel from the Baroque era. One of the 6 built in the valley to protect the inhabitants and prevent them
hazards (avalanches, fires, etc.)
The entrance door, ogival, is surmounted by an oculus and the inscription "Our Lady of the Snows protect us".

Its bell, made in 1869, cast in Annecy le Vieux by the Paccard Brothers, bears, among other things, the names of its godfathers and godmothers, as well as two motifs of the Virgin and Christ on the cross. Its diameter is 57 centimeters.


La Charmette
Chapelle de l'époque baroque. L'une des 6 construites dans la vallée pour protéger les habitants et les prévenir 
des dangers (avalanches, feux...)
La porte d’entrée, ogivale, est surmontée d’un oculus et de l’inscription « Notre-Dame des Neiges protégez-nous ».
Sa cloche, fabriquée en 1869, fondue à Annecy le Vieux par les Frères Paccard, porte entre autres les noms de ses parrains et marraines, ainsi que deux motifs de la Vierge et du Christ en croix. Son diamètre est de 57 centimètres.

The midwife toads are singing. This is time to wake up for the bats !

La scène a lieu a Chalinargues un petit village du Cantal 1 heure avant minuit. Les crapaud accoucheurs donnent de la voix près d'un bassin au centre du village. Les chauves souris partent en chasse virevoltant prés des lampadaires jusqu'à la surface de l'eau. 

2 enregistrements superposés dans la fréquence audible et ultrasons (hétérodyne + expansion de temps) Les auditeurs sont invités à chausser leurs supers oreilles !

Wake up Bats !

Scythe is a fascinating tool that sounds took place in the countryside from the age old times. Scythe is the origin of big social and economic changes. 
Instrument of harvest and revolt, meaning of Time and allegory of Death, the schythe seems to be a strong and ambivalent symbol.

This recording is a little tribute to this legendary tool.

La faux fait partie de ces sons oubliés qui peuplaient nos campagnes depuis les temps immémoriaux, en voici une traduction qui tente d'être la plus fidèle en enregistrement binaural.

La Faux est un outil agricole fascinant qui a tenu une place essentielle dans l’histoire des populations paysannes, son adoption est à l’origine d’importants bouleversements économiques et sociaux. 
Si la faux s’impose très tôt pour la coupe des foins, son usage est cependant longtemps condamné pour les moissons. Instrument de récolte et de révolte, attribut du Temps et allégorie de la Mort, la faux apparaît comme un symbole fort et ambivalent.

A full moon also called the "hunter moon" and the  sound of waves, a curious ambiant on the shores reminds me this Ernst JUNGER short novel.


Soir de pleine lune, celle que l'on appelle à cette époque "la lune des chasseurs" l'ambiance étrange de ces lieux me ramène à ce livre de Ernst JUNGER écrit sous l'influence du LSD. Bien qu'il décrive essentiellement un paysage de fjord Norvégiens j'y ai vu quelques similitudes avec cette calanque que j'ai investi pour la nuit.

"En fait, on vivait ici hors de l'Histoire, ou bien on y faisait irruption. Les temps d'essaimage étaient toujours revenus, où la jeunesse prenait la mer à la suite d'un prince. Ces incursions avaient changé la face du monde, mais n'avaient que rarement abouti à des fondations durables. Tout en elles demeuraient éphémère, lorsqu'on les comparait à la permanence des villes magiques. Là, on thésaurisait la matière ; mais dans ce pays, on gaspillait la force, jusqu'au point où l'univers entier risquait de se transmuer en force pure, comme le voulait le modèle légendaire des incendies cosmiques." This place is a legendary wood with old celtic stories. Before softwoods trees, druids used to come and meet each over in a beech forest.

Little streamwater in the storm -(Felletin Mount - FRANCE)

Lonely Tawny owl singing in the night. The weather is cloudy, temp 8-10 C°, Gentle breeze on the treetop and on the montain slope. About 50m from me. A place with a narow valley with less noise pollution (beside airplanes!)

A windy day in the woods / Vent dans les arbres

I like sounds. wich are a lot more evocative than images . Rather naturals sounds, I appreciate artistic, sociological, ecological or contemplative aproach. Besides  I start to be really interested in bioacoustic studies. Making DIY microphones projects (multicanal technic , hydros, bat recorders..) and home made wind protections.
