THIS WEEK'S SHOW: Non-violent conversation! 

Teenage campers explore a collapsed tower in the woods containing the rotting corpse of a killer. When one of them takes a locket off the body, its vengeful spirit is resurrected and summarily rips through all of them to reclaim it. IN A VIOLENT NATURE is an arthouse slasher throwback from the killer's POV and we talk with lead ensemble actors Ry Barrett & Andrea Pavlovic. 

A motherless newborn, a diary, an old assault and the Russian Mafia all play parts in EASTERN PROMISES, in which a man becomes enmeshed in a complicated and dangerous chain of events. We sit down with actor Viggo Mortensen (director/star/composer of THE DEAD DON'T HURT) and director David Cronenberg.

From 2021: In the meditative supernatural drama NINE DAYS, a mysterious man interviews five unborn souls to determine which one can be given life on Earth. But one free-spirited candidate causes him to face his own existential challenge by looking within. We connect with writer/director Edson Oda for a hardly-remote conversation.

In his book SHOCK VALUE: HOW A FEW ECCENTRIC OUTSIDERS GAVE US NIGHTMARES, CONQUERED HOLLYWOOD, AND INVENTED MODERN HORROR, author Jason Zinoman focuses on the influence of a handful of directors (Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, etc.) whose groundbreaking efforts created a wildly-successful industry.  

From 2012:  MACHINE GUN PREACHER tells the hardcore and inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds his unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of children in war-torn Sudan. hard-hitting and moving story of violence, redemption and the lengths to which a person will go in combatting an almost-unthinkable evil. We sat down with actors Gerard Butler & Michelle Monaghan.

Molina, a gay hairdresser in 1983 is serving time in an Argentine prison for alleged indecency when he is joined with Valentin, a political prisoner, and the two form an unlikely bond punctuated with Molina's imaginary movies starring a classic screen actress.

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN was a 1985 drama that became a Broadway musical, which is now a film again. Director Bill Condon (GODS AND MONSTERS, CHICAGO) and lead actor Tonatiuh sit down with us to discuss their haunting, sensual and deeply human story that blurs the line between fantasy and reality.

From 2003:  Five youths pick up a traumatized hitchhiker in the Texas backwoods and when she suddenly shoots herself, the group goes in search of help. Unfortunately, the remote house they discover is filled with a family of inbred psychopaths and in short order, they are pursued by a relentless chainsaw-wielding cannibal. Sound familiar? Of course it does! THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003) is considered one of the quality horror remakes, and we open the scary archives to revisit our chat with German director Marcus Nispel on his feature debut.

Leading our way through PAN'S LABYRINTH (2006) is writer/director Guillermo del Toro, (Golden Globe winner, THE SHAPE OF WATER), whose long-anticipated FRANKENSTEIN is currently in theaters.  

Now streaming:  A teenager moves with her father to the quiet town of Kettle Springs, Missouri, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times, and amidst boiling tensions, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Teen rebellion meets killer clown vengeance in CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD is an adaptation of the YA novel by Adam Cesare, who joins us along with director/co-screenwriter Eli Craig (TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL).

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and undocumented filmmaker Jose Antonio Vargas details his life-changing experiences in DOCUMENTED.
