Hello All
We just wanted everyone who has submitted a track to know that Smirks is continuing to work on these. We are both proud and pleased to say that your response was simply amazing, with such brilliant pieces to work on and, because we want the finished product to be the best it can be, putting everything together is taking time.  Smirks also contracted Covid some weeks ago, which has laid him quite low for a time - another reason things have been held up.  But we wanted to assure you that the project is very much ongoing.  

So Smirks decided to put this together to give listeners a taster of what we want the end product to be.  He hasn't included any of your submissions because he didn't want to spoil the element of surprise for everyone involved.
There are many collabs currently being put together - even my brother Tel and myself are working on something - so it's a very complex entity, all things considered.  But rest assured, we are getting there.

I think it’s important to say that a lot more women than you think have had one or multiple miscarriages. It’s just that it is a subject not often talked about because of the very personal pain that the couple go through. The unborn life has no contact with anybody else except the mother and the emotions are often only remembered by the mother and father.
When Jo and I were expecting our second child we were very excited and looking forward to having another Reeves in our growing family. I will never forget the day that we were told we were going to lose the baby and once told, left sitting in an open A & E waiting area having to cope with all our raw emotions and the prospect of the impending loss amongst the rest of the other patients.
Jo had to go through a painful operation to terminate the pregnancy and it is a day she will never forget. We were a family of three planning being a family of four having now to plan being a family of three recovering from an invisible loss and explain it to our young son.
It was an extremely difficult time but we were fortunate that after a few years we did have two more children. Jo tells me that although it is difficult to explain the connection she had with the unborn child that the presence of life inside her will never be forgotten.
I felt I couldn’t let this moment in our lives pass by without acknowledging our unborn child in some way. The rollercoaster of emotions we shared at that time from euphoria at increasing our family to devastation and bereavement at our loss were felt intensely only by Jo and myself played it’s part in forging the strong bond we have had throughout our relationship.  The reason why I worked on this work this time is because I want to sing and play with everyone.Therefore, I prepared a simple sheet music with lyrics and chords. There is a link above.

This work is probably one of the "protest songs". If I were to compare it to John Lennon's work, I think it would be "Give Peace A Chance." Yes, there are gems that confront discrimination, oppression, and prejudice, denounce injustice, and sing against war, and this is one of them. And not just to protest, but to sing together to "express your determination, clarify your way of life, question society, and lead to reform".

When winkandwoo released this work, I thought he was a great vocalist, singing a lot of important things and weights in the lyrics of "No need for guns, no need to fight".

And now many lament: "Ukraine is my country. Russia is my country. The country is killing my country." Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced from their homes, saying most people crossing the border from Russia don't want to kill people and don't want to serve this government. There is a movement to stigmatize this movement by branding it as a "traitor" and to use public power to contain it. I think protest songs play an active role here. Their lives and livelihoods are with us.

I hope that this song will help mankind break away from the "gun society" where mass shootings occur frequently, and that it will help all those who refuse military service in Russia. And I hope that this song will help unite Russian citizens against the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops and all citizens who support the Russian Revolutionary Movement.

This is a totally stolen idea gleaned from another one of those phone conversations with my brother Gary. We talk to each other every few days and normally end up sounding like two old men sitting on a park bench putting the World to rights.

I’m sure a lot of what we say has been said many times before (what hasn’t?) but one day, out of the blue, Gal says to me “ Sometimes I find things too difficult to deal with. I would love the opportunity to step off the world for just one second and clear my head a bit...” At the time I just accepted it as the type of thing we say to each other but two days after the phone call the idea of stepping off the world to escape the pressures of daily life returned when I was playing my guitar. The words “I’m stepping off, I’m stepping off” fitted with what I was playing and the start of a new opus was born.

Once a song seems complete, I generally record a quick demo and send it off to Gal to see if it has any potential. If he thinks it has, between us we try to put a better demo together to send to Hans.  If he thinks it’s any good, he’ll work on an arrangement and more often than not sends back something back that sounds way better than what we’d imagined.  

We might chip in a few ideas here and there (as Gal did with a totally new drum arrangement on this) but Hans is definitely the one that gives it most of it’s final shape and sound.  I love every step of the songwriting process.  It provides a kind of therapy and the creative process gives every day purpose and interest.  You could say it’s my way of stepping off the world for a short moment.

Phil McC (aka Waveology)is a talented keyboard player, and he offered this piano improvisation for me to engage with a melody and lyric. Although Phil went on to experiment with a band arrangement (https://soundcloud.com/philmcc-1/place-i-go-ft-terry-wigmore-jazz-orchestra-arrangement), I was always partial to the piano's simplicity and the space it afforded the vocal to sit in an imagined lounge, and that was the sound that inspired the lyrics. With an analog vibe in mind, and inspired by the CERN collider. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. It first started up on 10 September 2008, and remains the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex. The LHC consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way.

There are those that maintain that CERN has open up portals to other realms. An interesting possibility at the very least.

Clarinet was borrowed from my sister for summer practice. Reed & keywork managing is difficult for a beginner, & home cohabitance was set on serious risk, but with painful effort I got something presentable, or so I hope, as not willing to repeat soon...

Track shows a very delicate theme and a quite hard-riffed part, both alternating and finally flowing up to an endless symphonic dream (words are half a poem I wrote previously (not these, but lyrics below)).
