Aliens are temporary: eine mutierende Erzählung_ Soundtracks

Body, gender, biology, technology and music are at the core of Efe Ce Ele's artistic practice, gathered in her projects to give rise to mixed environments where apparently mutually exclusive realities coexist. Her sound piece, which dwells in several spaces in the form of an exhibition soundtrack, takes up her general research into the microscopic and bacterial qualities of sound. For this occasion Efe Ce Ele draws inspiration from plant life forms, archival sounds belonging to moments of social crisis and modes of joyful resistance through rhythm. Synthesized, sequenced and altered, sonic material is assembled to give life to a music body made of different aesthetic qualities reminiscent of drone, ambient and dance music.

FRKTL is the solo experimental music project of interdisciplinary artist and composer Sarah Badr. FRKTL's work pays particular attention to the narrative and sentient qualities of sound, often drawing inspiration from sources in ancient mythology and literature. As a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, FRKTL uses live sampling and improvisation, vocal manipulation, field recordings and generative rhythms to compose and create emotive, immersive explorations of sound. Her sound piece lives in different spaces of the exhibition, producing a looping soundtrack that surrounds other pieces and amplifies the sensorial qualities of the exhibition. The circular temporality of sound also enables a delicate and welcoming suspension of time by blurring our sense of a beginning and an end.

We're back, starting with a short conversation with Tel Aviv based programmer and designer Ariel Malka, who develops experimental interactive projects. Next we hear TJB's audio performance, expressing the artist’s non-binary self as 40 droplets of water impacting a heated sheet of steel. Following that, we have our monthly conversation, which is about “Utopia,” the elusive and idyllic no-place of a happier and more just society. The idea of utopia has had many consequences throughout history, and much has been built and unbuilt around it. Participants in this conversation include a diverse group of researchers, artists and designers composed by Susana Delahante Matienzo (Cuban, based in Amsterdam), Giuliana Visco (based in Rome), and Ou Ning (based in China). Finally, our host Sylvain Souklaye chats with KMRU to introduce the work of Sarah Badr (FRKTL), whose new, untitled sound art piece closes the episode.
