     Paul Joseph Otto, 1959-1992, was a talented and promising guitarist when he was injured in a car accident near his Wichita, Kansas home in 1977. The accident left Paul paraplegic, (paralyzed from the neck down) and unable to breath on his own. With the aid of loving parents and in home nurses, Paul was eventually able to return to his family home. In the early 1980's, the family bought a carpet, and was given a Texas Instruments computer as part of a promotional program from the carpet company. When Paul discovered the computer had a primitive music making program, he realized his dream of making music was not over. 

     Paul upgraded to a Yamaha CX5M Music Computer and a Yamaha drum machine and began to program original compositions on what, by today's standards, were primitive computers. Unable to physically do the programming himself, Paul relied on the help of family members and nurses who, in Paul's words,  "patiently provided my hands for me". In an age before the mouse, the process of composing this way was slow and cumbersome, as Paul had to tell his helpers exactly where to place the notes, which notations to use, and so on. Despite the difficulty of the process, from 1986 to 1991, Paul J Otto recorded  five full length recordings, before his life was cut short by a medical accident.
 
     These recordings were only available on cassette tape, and in an age before the internet, promoting the music of a musician who could not "play live" was nearly impossible. Add to that the fact that the music was mostly experimental, progressive rock  instrumentals, and it is easy to see why few people had the opportunity to hear Paul's work.
 
     Paul was my older brother, and recently, while listening to his music, I decided that the time has come to put  Paul's music on the medium most suited  it: the internet. I have begun the process of digitizing the recordings, and as cassette tapes degrade, the sound quality may be hit and miss. Rather than release the recordings in the order they originally appeared, I have decided to release them in a way that makes sense to me, and in a way that I suspect my brother would have approved. Downloads are free, as money is of no use in the afterlife.

Paris Charilaou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He was musically active from the young age of 7, starting off with his classical piano & music theory studies and completing the ABRSM Grade 8 at the early age of 15.  He was already making his first steps DJing, by founding PPG Party Services and playing electronic music in various private parties, which were either organized by him or was hired to play. In the meanwhile he was responsible for organizing most of his high school parties and arranging FX and soundtracks for school plays. He started experimenting with electronic music some years earlier, with primitive software, slowly progressing to more advanced DAWs and upgrading his home studio. His early genre of interest was Trance and so his productions.

At the age of 18 he achieved 2nd place in the Pancyprian Smirnoff DJ competition and signed his first 2 releases with 4Stroke Produktunes. Continuing to DJ around the island of Cyprus at various clubs (`Essential Experience` @ Basement in Limassol, Nissi Bay in Ayia Napa, Versus in Nicosia, et al), bars (Crumbs, in Limassol, et all) and private parties (too many to mention), he founded the joint venture of Purebeats.net, an electronic portal promoting electronic music & culture in Cyprus.

During his medical studies in Prague, Czech Republic, he continued DJing actively and producing music under the hood. By that time he changed his musical focus into a wide range house music, ranging from electro/progressive to deep house. He formed the dj-duo HouseCall and played in various prestigious clubs of the Czech capital such as Mecca and SaSaZu and in bars such as Jetset Andel. In the last 5 years his dj mashups have been heavily played and sought after on SoundCloud and social media, worldwide.

In 2013 he continued to exercise his production techniques and began a release spree on Karmak Records, Elektrify Records and Madison Square Records. His track "I Want U" was released on the award-winning label, Indiana Tones Records, while his latest track "Not Loving Again" was released by the massively-followed Lithuania HQ Records on their first compilation "Lithuania HQ Vol. 1", which has sold out all CD copies within first week of release and the single release was in the Top 100 Nu Disco Chart on Beatport.

Although born in upstate New York, I have always considered myself a native North Carolinian. I moved to Chapel Hill in 1991, and have lived overseas for some time, but I have never lost touch with the college town. I have studied music for most of my life, but really only began when I was introduced to the mandolin in 2001, jamming on a 20 dollar beater with a buddy on guitar. Previously I had only heard of the mandolin through my Italian family. My great grandfather, Charles Pella, played mandolin. I am in the process of tracking down his instrument, as it is rumored to be a Loar era instrument.

Like all players, I have learned to appreciate all genres of music, particularly I love how the mandolin, though perceived as a traditional classical, or bluegrass instrument, can be applied to all styles of play.

Music is such a spiritual endeavor, and a life-time pursuit. Great music crosses language, culture, and emotion. And, like a great novel, sound can evoke every spectrum of human emotion. At some point in my medical and family life, I decided I wanted to grow through my lifetime into a musician that can hopefully deliver the resounding variation of sound and emotion through the mandolin. While I dabble in other instruments, mandolin is my vector. The sound appeals to me, and is unique enough to change other more known tunes into something new.

I pride my self in loving and listening to all music, from pop to jazz to classical to choro to bluegrass and to “great music.” I am inspired by the mandolin greats, Marshall, Thile, McReynolds, Monroe, Grisman, Steffey, Statman, Stiernberg…there are so many.

But I am also inspired more so by music itself, and by the friendships I have developed through music. Some of my greatest influences have been my former band-mates. More importantly, I have created unbreakable relationships with my friends in music.

After almost eight years of playing, and three albums since starting the mandolin, I created parker mandolin to give yet another resource to the music community to hear new music, learn more about the great instrument, and of course to come and listen to live shows with me, Ben Parker.
