Narration: the original title is ‘70s synthesizer‘ in the cycle SONIC CASCADES (as published in A SINGLE LOOP OF FORTUNES). imagine a family in Western Germany. it‘s the 1970s and  conforming to strict norms is the latest rage wherever the youth invasion (o for the horrors of the 'gammler'!!!!) had to be fought off. I spent the decade (and more) going to school and trying to cope with fellow human beings …. and there still was this all encompassing being …..  the best mode of survival (at that age, at any age) was identification …..

How do you interpret the literal translation of karaoke - empty orchestra? 

Well I had a go; started with opening the BBC orchestra Plug in - spitfire audio - violins.  Made something very simple and looped it.
I had this playing through my main stereo which my decks are plugged into.. I let this playing on a loop and went down the hall in my house and used my digital tascam recorder to record from the far end of the house. I left this recording. 
I went back to the decks and selected an old classical record - Ketelbey Orchestral Concert - Bells Across the Meadow. I played this slowed down as low as my turntable can go, with no bass and treble to full... slowly faded this in. Near the end I pulled the 'earth' cable out the back of the mixer so it goes a bit crackly and caused one of the speakers to cut out. Perfect! 

That was more or less it. I opened this recording back up in Ableton and edited for a bit longer, reversing bits and adding extra effects.

The Assignment: Interpret the literal translation of “karaoke.”

Step 2: Think about the term “empty orchestra” on its own, apart from its association with karaoke. Come up with a new meaning for it. What kind of genre or musical form would “empty orchestra” be on its own?

Step 3: Record a piece of music exemplifying the ideas that arose to you during Step 2.

This may be the final or phoenix edition of the Rifles & Garbage Podcast as I seek social medial detox and the travelling cures for the next 2 months. "On Fire" includes poems by Charles Whittaker, Tony Brewer, George Christian, Palestinian poet Hiba Abunnada and a special forest fire narration & field recordings by Phil Mill. Poems and various vocal assertions about language and life forms on the brink of extinction by myself as well as the weaving field recordings and sonic textures by yours truly. And special thanks to Tony Brewer for the extended field recording of the cicada double brood from Belle, MIssouri (USA) which allowed me to breath more deeply and orchestrate this virtual commingly of spaces, places and voices. here is another recording for guitar and loopstation made in the summer of 2018. three tracks recorded in a continuous loop, without second thoughts.
I consider it a "revealing" piece for me. exactly like the other song: Lands of nowhere.
is the track that gives the title to my first album project.
