Mission

The third week of Advent is characterized by the oncoming joy of Christ’s arrival. It’s a break in the solemn tone, where we fill our hearts with the joy of the shepherds’ (this week’s candle on the Advent wreath is known as the “shepherd’s candle”) upon hearing the announcement of Christ’s birth. In fact, the greeting “…“Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” [Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬] is likely where this association originated.
I wanted to create a piece of music evocative of this joy, which isn’t an emotional joy—one that depends on momentary elation. But a deep, everlasting joy of the greatest love given to the human heart: Emmanuel. 
The third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete, which in Latin means “rejoice.”
It is symbolized by the only pink candle on the Advent wreath, to show this week is for rejoicing—for embracing the joy of our Savior, and heading down the home stretch of anticipatory celebration at Christmas.
May every heart rejoice in the glory of Christ, our Lord. 

“Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
