Slow Years

Bragolin is a Post-punk / Dark Wave band from Utrecht, The Netherlands. The band is lead by singer/guitarist Edwin van der Velde of Zwarte Poëzie. The music contains a mixture of bariton and shoegaze guitars, organ, synths and drummachines. Their first album and music videos will be released on Young & Cold Records in spring/summer 2018.

Into Those Woods

We Need

Bragolin is a two-piece post-punk / wave band from Utrecht, The Netherlands. The name is inspired by Italian painter Giovanni Bragolin, famous for his crying boy paintings. The band is led by songwriter/singer/guitarist Edwin van der Velde, with Maria Karssenberg on guitar and organ.

Bragolin’s sound contains a mixture of baritone guitars reminding of 80’s new wave bands, to 90’s reverb laden shoegaze guitars. Instead of the music which the guitar sounds resemble, the mixture with pounding drummachines and bass synthesizers creates Bragolin’s danceable wave sound. The songs vary from pulsating and addictive riffs in their first released music video ‘Into Those Woods’, to the apocalyptic atmospheres of ‘In Our Field Of Oaks’ which contains guest vocals by dark pop singer Adam Usi. The organ sound, the horror movie inspired lyrics and touching voice complete their unpredicted haunting sound.

In 2018 the band released their 8-track debut album ‘I Saw Nothing Good So I Left’ which was recorded by Van der Velde and former band member Isolde Woudstra who also takes credit for the mesmerizing album cover and vocals on the album’s title track. The release was produced by René Jongeneelen of Malochia and Contrast, and was released on Young & Cold Records. Maria Karssenberg joined Bragolin on guitar and organ before the release of the album, after which the two-piece played at various festivals and parties across Europe, among which Wave Gotik Treffen, Extramuralhas, Waveteef, Wavefest and Young & Cold Festival.

For their second album Bragolin teamed up with Adam Tristar to release the ‘Bragolin vs Adam Tristar’ album ‘Let Out The Noise Inside’. This is not a split release but a true cooperation featuring the danceable and electronic sound of Adam Tristar combined with the dark atmosphere and vocals of Bragolin. In the summer of 2019 the collaboration released their first single ‘The End Dwells In Us All’, a new uptempo dance floor killer featuring a hypnotizing arpeggiated synth, catchy bariton guitar riff, ghostly musical saw and melancholic vocals with serial killer inspired lyrics. During the year Adam Tristar has also joined Bragolin on stage for a limited amount of shows. After the single the full album was released on CD and vinyl, again on Young & Cold Records. The album features eight songs of which six are new and two songs where each band covered / remixed the other.

Bragolin is a Dutch post-punk/dark wave project by Edwin van der Velde. The music contains influences from various decades with ‘80s baritone guitar, synths and drummachines, '60s/'70s organs and ’90’s Shoegaze guitars. The lyrics are inspired by post-apocalyptic and horror movies. Bragolin is named after the Italian painter Giovanni Bragolin, famous for his crying boy paintings.

In 2018 the debut album ‘I Saw Nothing Good So I Left’ was released with ‘Into Those Woods’ as the first music video. The song with its sticky baritone melody by now is a modern dance floor classic. The album was produced by Van der Velde together with former band member Isolde Woudstra, who also takes credit for the iconic album cover. The album was co-produced and mixed by René Jongeneelen, with whom Van Der Velde also worked on various records of the Dutch Wave project Zwarte Poëzie. The album was released by Young & Cold Records on Vinyl and CD and by now has 3 represses.

From 2018 Maria Karssenberg joined Bragolin and since then the duo played over 40 shows at various festivals and parties [venues] across Europe and, including main festivals like] Highlights were Wave Gotik Treffen DE, Extramuralhas PT, Waveteef BE, Kalabalik SE and Grauzone NL.

For the second album released in 2019, Van Der Velde teamed up with Adam Tristar to write the ‘Bragolin vs Adam Tristar’ album ‘Let Out The Noise Inside’. Instead of a split release it is a true cooperation featuring the electronic sound of Adam Tristar combined with the dark atmospheres and vocals of Bragolin. During the year Adam Tristar had also joined Bragolin on stage for a limited amount of shows. In 2020 remixes by Bragolin were released by Clan of Xymox (She) and She Past Away (Ruh).
