After having blowing each other’s minds for years with their hard-earned audio finds, Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston decided to organize their own club night in 2010 in order to give their sound an outlet. On July 26th both gentlemen came to Trouw together for the first time and gave us an amazing set filled with primitive house, post-punk, dub, krautrock, disco and new beat. We've isolated a couple of hours of this all night long set by the wonderful music connaisseurs for this twelfth edition of the Trouw Live Podcast Series!

This is pretty ideal, right? It's 4 PM on Saturday afternoon at a four-day festival. Energy levels are beginning to sag. You're itching to build momentum for the night ahead. Then, up steps Andrew Weatherall with a Love From Outer Space set, in which he slowly and soothingly builds a vibe, taking you from hesitant to hedonistic in 90 minutes.

Felix Dickinson’s story is closely linked with the story of house. He has been playing it (and making it legal to do so via his pre criminal justice act rave orchestration) since day one, has held decade long residencies in Japan and has made it under names ranging from Foolish and Sly to Bastedos. Besides working with labels like Rush Hour and DFA, he also runs his own Cynic Music and has been a key DJ  at places like Glastonbury, Garden Festival and Sonar. His style is, generally, to play music from all over the place, but he always manages to mesh them together into some thing fun and coherent. 

Over the course of 70 odd minutes here he shows off his far ranging taste and looks back as much as forward. Carefully controlled throughout, the set mixes up floor filling house with breezy grooves, chattery Chicago jack and euphoric piano anthems. It’s party starting but tastefully so and once again has you wondering who needs DJ Harvey when you have Felix Dickinson.

This is the rare internet-only Real-Audio 'teaser' mix that preluded the launch of the Rotters Golf Club site in Sept. 1999.

Streaming was pretty poor back then, so sound quality is a little lacking (lossy, squelchy, artifacts etc) , but get past that and it's a great and rare downtempo/ambient electronic mix from Andrew Weatherall, considering he was going for it with the electro/machine/funk by around that point. 

I don't know ANY of the tunes on this, so any help IDing them would be cool. Enjoy!

Andrew Weatherall’s extraordinary twenty-five year career in music has been characterised by a series of unique partnerships. Before even touching on his nineteen albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes we should hark back to the early days of acid house when he worked with Danny Rampling at the legendary Shoom Club and with Terry Farley on the Boys Own Fanzine which morphed into the label that released the first records by Underworld and Chemical Brothers.

Hailing from London, Sean Johnston is one half of the infamous "A Love From Outer Space" duo alongside Andrew Weatherall and also part of Hardway Bros. Described as an "Acid-House Veteran, Techno Survivor and Alpinist" he has released plenty of records on labels and outfits such as Throne Of Blood, Sabres Of Paradise, Luna Flicks, Astro Lab or IsItBalearic?!
