I listened to all the responses to the theme, this one easily the fave 😇

This is a something in between a re-mix and a re-make of an old montage piece based on recordings of electrostatic generators that I made in Teylers Museum (Haarlem), and sounds I designed around that. The piece was left out of the actual series of pieces ('Beauty Sleepers') performed there as part of the Toon festival in 2001. The re-make/re-model version was made in loving dedication to my father who passed away on January 24th 2022.

The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Last summer, after an accident, I had to stop playing double bass. This is my second attempt to get back to the instrument after months of silence, I thought this could be a nice opportunity to share the process and slowly start to get my hands on it to see how it feels and how my body responds to playing.
Focused on improvisation, gesture, silence and number 7. 

7 seconds of music are followed by 7 seconds of silence. 14 seconds of music are followed by 14 seconds of silence. 21 seconds of music are followed by 21 seconds of silence. Repeat and then decrease time until the last 7 seconds of silence.
Loosely based on recording pre-count at ~ 60.50 bpm 
No timer was used during the process, so there may be irregularities.
I only played my double bass open G string with a bow.
Added some slight Mimeophon delay-modulation then a bit of chorus + phaser + tape effect (encoderaudio Ferro) in Ableton Live.
I kept volume low in order to make it possible to work on it and mix further things for future use.

A nice prompt!

I started with a 4-second, mid-heavy ambience loop you hear at the start. Everything else is made from this one loop… so it was a plug-fest.

I used Micron Cascade for granular reverb, eFx Motion for, well, motion, Q-3 for EQing, Portal for granular madness, Mf-105S Murf for movement, Neutron for overall balance, and a transient designer to get some drumlike sounds.

There’s not much going on, so 1:20 felt long enough.

Used part of the longer recording for this project. Thank you @toaster for providing the sample. Layered a track from my modular over the train recording to create the final piece. Used Hermod+ to sequence a bass line using Rings, and also added a simple melody from the module with a K-Board keyboard. Some modulation was added using OCHD. A collaboration for Disquiet Junto. I based my track on week 2's track by @undermulden and @encym. I played some chords and synth arps from my Deluge in some of the spaces, while trying to maintain the sparse ambient feel of the originals.
