My name is Joy Ex simply defined as joyful expressions. I am a 25 year-old  new aged neo-soul/ hip hop artist. My music is inspired by great artist such as Etta James, Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, and today’s Jhene Aiko. My influence comes from my black culture alongside my  my Nigerian culture as well. I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland’s east side as a church and choir singer. After sometime I relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where I began my recording career. There are many values that represent Joy Ex as an artist. I define myself as an independent, educated Black-African woman. I am mother of two beautiful bi-racial children. I am extremely passionate about higher education. I am hippie, a lover of all things life, love, and art. I love all beings no orientative biases male or female etc. My work is inspired from those around me, my life experiences.  During an encounter with a fan she expressed that, “your music is me, like everything I feel you say.” That moment was proof that I am accomplishing the goals with my music that I intend.
I am a new artist to the music scene beginning a career. Currently being released is my very first EP titled, “ Happy without the H.” This is a brief insight into my state of mind during a change of life. I finally separated from a 9 year toxic relationship with my high school sweetheart/father to my children. I was in pain and lost, this EP became an extreme period of growth for me. This project is scheduled for release June 2017. Also coming soon are the video journey’s to follow the musical voyage. The plan for the future is to expose people across the world to my music bringing joy to everyone who listens. I plan to continue to master my craft. I believe that music is life. My music is an expression of myself for the unheard voice. I would like to create a safe place of escape, a judgement free zone. With my music I want to cause a rebellion. I want to urge the people to stand up and voice your thoughts, be heard.
