All I can do is bow in deep respect to the sacredness of your life-giving and life-taking essence, following cosmic cycles.

You - the most perfect creation: the miracle of your lifegiving, healing water. The wonders of the animal kingdom. The secrets of your forests, the mysteries of your mountains... 

Everything co-existing, depending on each other, in a symphony of Life, Death, Rebirth... Each little creation a universe in itself.

What Would The Shaman Tell You?
If sometime over the last 50,000 years, you were to live in one of the many African tribal cultures, and if you were feeling a little flat, lost or generally out of whack, it would be common practice to visit the local shaman.
And in some African tribes it would be common practice for the shaman to ask you 4 simple questions:
	1	When was the last time you danced?
	2	When was the last time you sang?
	3	When was the last time you told a story?
	4	When was the last time you sat alone in stillness?
In many ancient cultures dancing and singing were known to be ways to greater vitality.  It was felt that such practices actually inspire the soul, and better connect us to the divine and sustaining forces of life.
In the millenniums before radio, newspapers and television, telling stories was a way to connect with, teach and entertain each other – activities that are all good for the psyche.
And sitting alone in stillness allowed the usual storm of random or compulsive thoughts to settle, and intuition, insight and wisdom to emerge.
In our "full speed ahead towards the future" culture, we have lost much of the wisdom gathered in the previous 99.99% of our evolution.
If you cannot remember the last time you sang and danced with friends, shared a story that was meaningful, or sat alone in stillness, take a little time this summer to reconnect to some of these ancient practices.

THE YAWANAWÁ PEOPLE

There are about 1.000 Yawanawá living in the Brazilian state of Acre, in villages along the banks of the Gregório river, where they have made their homes since time immemorial.

The Yawanawá people's first contact with the non-indigenous world happened around the fourteenth century. It was an intense period of much conflict with the rubber barons and missionaries who invaded their lands and tried to forbid Yawanawá language, culture and spirituality. In the 1980s, chief Biraci Nixiwaka Brazil led his people in the fight for the recognition of their native territories, and the Yawanawá became the first indigenous people to obtain the official rights to their lands in the state of Acre.

The Yawanawá have since then reclaimed their sacred medicines, rituals, song and dance, festivals, games, traditional body painting and adornment, artwork and food, in a profound journey of cultural revival.

Yawanawá spirituality is a sacred territory where never a woman had dared to
step, for since ancestral times, it had belonged exclusively to men.
In 2005, Putanny and her sister Hushahu, were the first women to defy their ancient male-dominated tradition and commit to the sacred oath of the Yawanawá people. They were the first women to undergo the Yawanawá people's highest spiritual initiations.
After a year of strict diet, they earned their communities' respect as spiritual
leaders, opening the way into this sacred path for other Yawanawá women. A
break in tradition that united the male and female universes - and brought the magic of feminine spirituality to strengthen the Yawanawá culture.
