In a world drowning in grey cover bands, may we introduce the antidote - The Weekend.

Their plan is simple – Take the best Dance Music Classics from the last 20 years, and strip them back to their purest and most beautiful.  Simply, a vocal and a guitar.

Inspired by Ibiza’s iconic Café Del Mar, The Weekend re-imagine some of the biggest tunes to have graced the world’s turntables, taking them from the heat of the dancefloor to the rich warmth of the sunset.  

Formed by Melinda Appleby and Danny Dharumasena out of a desire to play what they wanted to hear, The Weekend is a brand new duo with an agenda.  “We know people love this music as much as we do”, explains Melinda with a smile, “but what we want to do is play these songs for people in a way they are going to absolutely adore. .. We want to make these amazing songs, timeless”.

Melinda’s credentials show a career embedded in dance music . She has recorded for acts such as Union State, INXS, Steve Hart, Ivan Gough, The Exiles & Elan. Melinda was also the original vocalist in the Rogue Traders, and was responsible for penning and performing their first hit – the disco house classic ‘Give In To Me’ – and then went on to co-write all of their later hits.  As a live performer, Melinda has worked every stage imaginable, from 3am sets at Melbourne’s legendary Q Bar, to supporting Kelly Clarkson on her national tour with the Rogue Traders. Melinda also features on upcoming records from Chardy, Jealous Much? & Walden.

Melinda is joined on guitar by Danny Dharumasena, a veteran of Melbourne’s live music scene . Since the early nineties Danny has worked as  guitarist, producer and writer for Jermaine Jackson, Guy Sebastian, CDB, The Rockmelons, 
1200 Techniques, Disco Montego, Marie Wilson, Wa Wa Ne, and Black Dogs.  Truly a versatile and in demand talent that perfectly shares Melinda’s passion for classic dance music.

With their eyes fixed on the sunset, it’s time to get ready for The Weekend.
