Minimal don Kepler strikes a balance between dancefloor utility and introspection on his latest record, and debut for X-Kalay. Big house and techno incursions straight out of Yorkshire – Leeds, to be precise. It’s a strong testament to the region’s long standing reputation as a hotbed for late-night minimalism.

Subtle flourishes and details stand out across all four tracks. Uncovering relics from ancient futures, ‘Lowlife’ stimulates the pineal gland with a mescaline-strength take on classic ‘90s tech house. While it dials the trippier elements down just a tad, ‘Control’, like its predecessor, recalls golden era Wiggle or Asad Rizvi under his Silverlining moniker.

No half measures on the next one. Bringing heft in spades, ‘Stranded’ comes hurtling in with swinging, jacking 4 AM NRG. It’s some serious gear, which makes the EP closer such an unexpected left-turn. ‘Need’ offers proper heads-down introspection, complete with widescreen, nebulous chords that ripple out into the vastness of space.

Having been in Montreal for 4 years now, Emiliano’s imprint in the city’s tight-knight music scene has grown stronger each year. Emiliano Chamandy, a talented and resourceful musician, producer, DJ, booker & promoter from Mexico, has been putting the jog-wheels to use for over 7 years now. From spinning wax to composing trax, it’s clear he lives and breathes electronic music. Based in Montreal now, his commitment to the craft has caught the ear of many. Since the early days of his Barbossa residency, Chamandy keeps driving his momentum onward, turnin’ heads each & every weekend.

Emiliano pushes deeper into the scene once again, presenting the debut release on his new label SEER RECORD CO. The standout for the Bolting Bits crew is the A2 - Smooth House (Tribute). Chamandy produced the track in dedication to the OG NY House tune by Barkim & Langel (from the Mission Inhousable-EP). Twisting his version with a personal touch and analog feel, the track features fellow members from his Montreal crew - The Fella’s Q-Tips. Formed upon punchy kicks, Emiliano balances shimmering arpeggios (played by Boogaloo Jones), a chunky modulating bassline, and macro-structural nuances that amplify the lushy dreamy chords (played by Maxime Miaja). The original track by the Argentinian DJ & Producer MILIANO is a perfect example of his music style, ethereal and minimalistic Progressive House, with beautiful atmospheres and hypnotic sequences as main elements.

LIO Q, returns to Univack making another solid track, using most of the original elements with great skill, and  adding some new elements to get a very strong version, perfect for the dance floor.

The Colombian GUX JIMENEZ shows a very different and particular version, darker, more complex, more hypnotic, but also progressive. Its main synth will make you mind explode.

GONZALO SACC & RODRIGO LAPENA have been making music together for a long time. All their collaborations result in very complete Progressive House. An example of a perfect music symbiosis.

Having their previous singles currently placed on 239 Spotify playlists including Best Techno 2024, Melodic Techno 2024, and Miss Monique Selections 2024, the cryptic dance music duo ÅNDfØLK announce a brand new track ‘Climbing Walls’, out 21 March via Caramel Records. A lesson in lean production and visual storytelling, ÅNDfØLK forges a solid harmonic bond between male vocalist and LFO-enhanced arpeggiator set against the vastness of miragelike soundstage, giving a melodic techno track a unique twist.

‘Climbing Walls’ was set in motion by one of those mundane, passing moments in life that has more to it than meets the eye. “It is the sensation of the moment you get on that airplane,” the duo describes. “You’ve taken off, it’s night-time. You look out the window, and there’s just the lights, the sky, and the fact that you’re going somewhere different.” Leaving out the finer details of the story and the characters amps up the dramatic element of the song. “That could be two people traveling together. Or it could be two people separating.”

‘Fear none, steer towards the sun	Far away from these walls that we’ve been climbing		She said: I’m done with this place. And I’m down to leave no trace behind us.’

While the original concept may sound straightforward, the way to get there was anything but, that much is clear. “This f***ing track is the most frustrating thing we have ever worked on,” ÅNDfØLK goes straight off. “We started this about two years ago and we made 51 different versions, probably even more than that. We’ve done ethereal, we’ve done progressive, and what’s been interesting about it has been that we been on a journey of education within production, and we’ve been applying all our learning to this track.”

The most critical turning point of their journey was the decision to build a harmony around the vocals using an arpeggiator. “We did a lot of work with the LFOs and the melody within the arp, and that’s what gives you the stutter effect across the note changes,” they explain. “What it did was add a melodic and a groove element we were lacking, and because of that bring out more of the vocals. It’s really interesting in a musical sense how sometimes all that it takes is switching one instrument and you get so much more out of every melodic in the track.”

Well-known for perfectionism, ÅNDfØLK’s way of working is labour-intense yet highly productive. “The other versions were very good. They were much smoother and continual as a whole but didn’t give the voice the power. We realised that where we’d gone wrong with the other versions is that the voice should be the protagonist. So, it took us a very long time to get there,” they conclude, laughing.

Back on Stil vor Talent after contributing a banging remix to Oliver Koletzki and Fritz Kalbrenner's 'Heart on Hold' a few months ago, Bulgarian producer Pavel Petrov turns in his debut solo transmission for us, 'Parallel'. Comprised of two cuts that give full vent to his epic-sized vision and monumental buildups, Petrov's newest bridges the gap between frontal sonic assault and a sensorially effervescing sound design. As cascades of pumped up Italo arpeggios and languid pads mingle in a cosmic symphony of sorts, 'Parallel' opens up a portal to some unknown clubbing dimension, where a brooding, near-dystopian atmosphere crosses swords with hypermodern EBM brutalism and grime-informed vox sampling. A further straightforward, acid-oriented roller, the second track 'C0smica' has us nodding our heads to a crisp deluge of liquid bass and neon-splattered electro vibrancy, ready to take on any dance floor with its inch-perfect combo of retro-laced imagery and sci-fi-indebted kinetics. True to his poised and ambitious DJ-friendly approach, Petrov delivers a duo of fearless club heaters that'll leave wisps of vapour in their wake.
