Dead Inside

“Russell Rock” is a song about memory, friendship, and the healing power of nature. In 1987, I discovered a massive glacial erratic hidden deep in the woods near Mount OJI in Baxter State Park, Maine. I named it after my best friend Steve, who climbed it with me and passed away a few years later.

Decades later, after being diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and facing a debilitating health journey, I set a goal: to find that rock again — and to honor Steve with a memorial at the site. This song is part of that journey back. It’s about loss and love, but also resilience, remembrance, and the bond between friends that time can’t break.
