If so, a form of similar reality is about to be unleashed as the Reverse Family step forward to announce themselves with a sound which trespasses and festers in the psyche. The difference is that this is set to be the most welcome invasion of ears as it crawls with relish into the imagination.

Reverse Family is the solo project of Dermot Illogical, aided by a fluid band of collaborators from time to time, this debut offering is a lo-fi exploration into an experimental DIY web of sounds and flavours which is hard to pin down but certainly embraces everything from post punk and noise pop to indie and old school punk.  

The first song we came up against was Alchopoppers on Fast Food, a brief and gentle yet deviously engaging song which instantly entices thoughts of seventies bands like Swell Maps and The Shapes but with the melodic natures of The Freshies. It is captivating stuff even with a drop into calmer waters which does not quite connect with personal tastes. We are not sure of the album's track order but if this is to be the opener it provides a potent start though the brilliant Way It Goes is an even bigger pull. Carrying an early Adam and The Ants feel to its magnetic stroll, the song is pure addiction with a funk revelry bubbling under its pop punk surface, Dermot as vocally mischievous as the guitar led sounds around him. 

There is great variety to the songs too; Bit Slits for example flirting with the senses through keys which manage to sound like the brass flames of Essential Logic while guitar and vocals veer towards the Nikki Sudden school of discord blessed minimalistic seduction while Electronic 6 entangles portentous keys and winy guitars with fuzzy vocals for a Dalek I Love You/Artery scented melancholy. It is fair to say that Dermot wears influences openly yet each song develops its own distinct character under often familiar hues.

Hand of God has a darker and meatier nature to its predacious swing, contagious hooks and a great grumbling bassline aligning with melodic enterprise for a proposal which swiftly grips ears and appetite; a success just as easily won by the lively pop bounce of One Eyed, a seemingly early Television Personalities seeded encounter and the hypnotic I Can Sense Their Watching Eyes. This too has a flavour of Dirk Wears White Sox to it but with funky beats and another irresistible post punk guitar jangle in its off kilter dub teased shuffle, the track blossoming into another unique proposition within My Songs About Life Mid Crisis.

Other tracks in the mix are Business or Pleasure, a delicious song which sounds like Weezer soaping The Piranhas while recording it all in the bath, The Legend of Pierre with its haunting keys wrapped sultry croon, and Odd Mix Newgates, a seductive magnetic monotone tone spawned track surely inspired by Mark E. Smith.

The collection of tracks are completed by Higher Power with plaintive melodies and dour yet emotionally suggestive vocals and the outstanding May Number 10 Dream which again hints at bands like The Fall, Marc Riley and The Creepers, and The Mekons, as well as the criminally catchy Sods Law. Hips and feet beware as even in its low key nature it will have you swinging in an instant.

There are so many highlights offered by the Reverse Family songs; each track connecting with an ever eager hunger for punk fuelled, post punk spiced imagination. Plastic Punks epitomises this perfectly, its Fire Engines toned melodic jangle and Spizzenergi devilry sheer temptation again emerging as something specific to Reverse Family.

With a tongue in cheek lining to the lyrical reflection shaping songs which spreads into the music itself, Reverse Family is a beguiling adventure with a nod to the past and a grip on an imagination as fresh as it is, well quite simply a touch loco.

The channel garnered the attention of labels and producers, earning a position as “…a substantial voice within the underground scene (Tiefhaus Records).” Schodt, of Silk Royal, even said, “Love those videos…sounds wonderful…have very nice taste in tracks.” The transition from a YouTube channel to becoming a label resulted with a relationship of Fuzzy Recordings. “I started promoting their releases (on mixes). After a period of chatting with label manager, Jerry Chiu, he invited me to be part of his label, as an A&R manager.” After a few months on the job, “Jerry asked me if I would be interested in bringing Sunset Melodies to the foreground, as a label and part of the Fuzzy Recordings collective,” says Wahed. “He [Jerry] served as a peer advisor on how to manage during the first few months.” Beckoning for its voice is heard; the thriving YouTube channel came into its own as a label.

A huge snow storm suddenly showed up on the radar; from their post at the Nuuk weather station in Greenland, Aleksandr and Mickail realized they'd never manage the sledge journey back to the town where they were playing that night. They called the owner of the discotheque via video chat to cancel their concert. But when they realized that the people were very excited in the club, already in the atmosphere that you have at 3AM but at 8PM, the idea struck them: why not have the concert anyway, but remotely, via webcam? Skype was hooked up to the tv screen TV and the speaker (it was a single 6 by 6 meter speaker laying under the ground, so you could feel the sound run travel through your body while you dance), and the 2 geeks unpacked their equipment in the weather station.

The next morning, partygoers and musicians woke up to a beautiful layer of pure white snow blanketing the shiny roads of Nuuk. They were all filled with the memories of having shared an incredible party filled with unspeakable things that you normally do only when you are alone, 100km away from each other on webcam. Inspired by the strange circumstances, Aleksander and Mickail had joked around and interacted all night with the audience during the performance, and it had been such a thrill that the brothers decided to continue playing that way : the Skwhere ☐ experience was born. 

Looking at their eclectic background, it seemed obvious they weren't going to do something normal. By age 9, Mickail and Aleksandr had already built  their own music studio / video production company / marketing agency, developing concepts like "Sound & Lights during the night", or films like "The life of one creature is more important than the happiness of another one". At age 20, they decided to start getting into more serious business, so they studied jazz piano at the conservatory, while launching the first webseries in France, a comedy/realTV show they produced from A to Z. During that period, they developed their taste for music made with computers (Aleksandr was making all the sound tracks of the series). After being called "terrorists" by the conservatory for admitting they had an electro-jazz band, they were definitely expelled when they started making beats with no jazz at all and a kick drum on every pulse.

Admitting to a stockpile of 1980's dance tapes, they veered towards dance floor electronic music and started a band with a friend in 2005, Alienhearts, which played regional gigs before being invited to Parisian clubs and the Goliath 2007 in Geneva. 

Their story becomes fuzzy after 2010; maybe one day they'll reveal what they're doing out in Greenland, but right now they just managed to release their first EP with an US label, composed of 6 electro tracks infused with rich pop, French touch, and trance influences.

In the meantime, Skwhere allows the 2 brothers to exploit all of their passions in one original concept. Streamed and projected onto big screens in clubs anywhere in the world, now with high quality sound and video, their shows are a very unique mix of comedy, live performance and awesome dance floor beats. Stuck behind their computers at the weather station, the two geeks marvel at how the unconventional format of their gigs has broken many boundaries and brought them closer to their audience. "The greater the distance, the stronger the emotion".
