In this song I used electric guitar, Armenian duduk, cello, accordion, electric bass, backing vocals, drums and percussion.

'Denouement' was originally written on the piano to accompany a poem of the same name. I later had the pleasure of working with songwriter and guitarist Matt Guntrip who added his stunning guitar to the track. I feel that the guitar has truly elevated the piece by accentuating the nuances of the story in a powerful way. 

I hope you enjoy this "music-spoken word" landscape which aims to bring home the sentiments of love and life endured across the passage of time.

Denouement

I want to be there, in your broken reflection
the one that haunts you after the end
maybe we were right then but now we're wrong

like stirring pale clouds into steeped tea
just an illusion of something far away
married into an unextraordinary routine

but it is vital, this milk of memory
makes life mildly bearable
when I stare in the mirror, I see you madly in love, still

you see me, a Plath poem pressed to my heaving chest
a girl you once knew, now trapped in her own mind:
a library of stories belonging to others,
vellichor draped over an aloneness that defies poetic justice
the window left open to a perpetual sunset

a sleeper train interrupts the horizon
it carries the cargo of absence
across a long and winding road
to some fool's paradise with no name

along those boundless fields, we walked
there, time is a quicksilver bullet, then gone
light dissipating everywhere but here
I accept that now, silent all these years

how love changes even in the aftermath
its death, sudden and swift, so the stories go

I'm going home now
maybe the mourning will end after the dirge
but my black heart will always believe in its ghost

...and I confess, what remains, is quietly startling.
