bacteria grl, an emerging DJ from Eora/Sydney, has swiftly made her mark in the local music scene since her debut in late 2023, delving into the harder realms of techno. 

Although new to music scene, she confronts gender biases that resonate from her STEM background. 
Enduring comments on opportunities and gender, she challenges assumptions about the ease of her journey, refusing to let them undermine her hard work. Undeterred, she persists in her mission to break down gender stereotypes in both the world of music and STEM.

During the course of this project, bacteria grl engaged in profound self-reflection, aiming to inspire others to do the same.

“If you’re a DJ,  I encourage you to consider your latest sets… Did your selection of tracks reflect a balance of diversity and gender equality? 

My own revelation hit hard – my sets were unintentionally disproportionately male-centric. It’s easy to fall into this pattern, especially when our charts predominantly feature male artists.”

Committing to change, bacteria grl has pledged to conscientiously curate gender-balanced track lists, aspiring to contribute to a music scene where gender equality becomes the norm. bacteria grl highlights that DJs have a powerful platform where track selections not only shape the dance floor but also influence the future of our industry.
