If Not For The Light is the latest classical masterpiece by the renowned composer Jeremias Jeremias Langsämmer. This evocative work is divided into three distinct movements—Dusk, Night, and Dawn—each capturing the essence of its respective time of day through a rich tapestry of sound and emotion.

Dusk
The opening movement, Dusk, sets the stage with a somber and reflective tone. As the day begins to wane, a mournful cello takes the lead, its deep, resonant notes echoing the gradual slowing of time. The reflective piano intersperses with delicate strings, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and melancholy. Dawn
The final movement, Dawn, heralds the arrival of a new day with a clear and hopeful tone. A melodic piano takes center stage, its bright and uplifting notes symbolizing the break of light and the promise of a fresh start. This movement is characterized by its optimistic and rejuvenating melody, which gradually builds in intensity and complexity. The hopeful piano is accompanied by gentle strings, weaving a tapestry of sound that culminates in a triumphant and harmonious finale, embodying the dawn's radiant and invigorating spirit.

This started as a group of 5 loops, all increasing in intensity, for a game made for the pirate game jam on itch.io.  

I really loved the hook when I made it and I knew I wanted to use it in something but it sat alone for a few months as just 4 bars and a basic drum track while I worked on other projects.  I felt like doing a boss battle theme and decided to finish it up when the opportunity for the game jam appeared.

I nearly always compose my songs with instruments like the oboe acting as place holders for the vocals. It struck me that this particular composition would go well as an instrumental in its own right, so here it is for your enjoyment!

Yearning

I am a solo recording artist who produces his own original music in Tweed Heads West, NSW, Australia.
 
My songs are released under the band name Retrospection. The joy and satisfaction I get from making music and sharing it, is my reward, although I do like to receive some recognition for my efforts!

Back in December 1963, after graduating from high school in Brisbane, QLD, Australia, I formed the rock band The Avengers in which I played lead guitar and sang backing vocals. We were semi-professional, playing any or all of the nights from Friday through to Sunday.

After two years I had to leave the band to take up a teaching career. Throughout my life I kept up (unpaid) entertainment as extra-curricular activities in the various schools in which I worked.

Unfortunately, I am no longer able to give live performances because of health problems.
