#TheSixties #theleft #peacemovement The tankie craze is dissected starting with its' roots in the 1956 Russian invasion of Hungary, splits in the left and how, under the rubric of "anti-Imperialism" various groups have been led down the primrose path of apologetics for the likes of Bashar Assad, Vladimir Putin and Sadaam Hussein. Bill traces the early split in the Socialist Workers Party when Sam Marcy created the Workers World Party, initiating an unfortunate trend to white wash the crimes of the post-Stalinist Soviet Union.

The discussion turns then to the distortion of the peace movement objecting to the first invasion of Iraq into a fig leaf for Sadaam Hussein as former Attorney General Ramsey Clark came to prominence.  This video, the first in a series of talks with Bill, is part of a process of shining light on how many factions of the left have failed to properly support Ukrainian resistance to the illegal and brutal invasion of Ukraine.
