The “Heaven” EP features producer-extraordinaire Leonard Charles at the helm, collaborating with prodigious artists from New Zealand (his home country) and the USA, to create a wildly eclectic E.P. project with the common underlying thread of basement funk knitting it together. This presentation of funk is truly a legitimate foundation for the heads that need it: built upon solid soul/jazz chord progressions and played on original musical equipment/gear from the 80’s and 90’s. The record features an exclusive remix of the song “Nine Lives” that he co-wrote with boogie/funk legend Leroy Burgess, and additionally features stellar collaborations with Guilty Simpson, Zyah Belle, Reality Jonez and A.C. Freazy.

For his third full-length release, Matt Emonson AKA Mat/Matix has remixed and mastered a tape of his 2013-2016 creations dubbed ‘850,’ an ode to his 1997 Volvo station wagon. Moved by Larry Heard’s Sceneries Not Songs Vol. 1-2, Emonson has painted his own aural landscape including batches of uptempo synth funk, street soul, g-funk, and jazzy house. Toiled over for many years, this instrumental album is the sound of a young producer discovering their unique darkened west-coast sound. In ’Mountain Mist,’ a wall of drum breaks and synths give way to a soulful guitar solo. ‘Loons’ takes a swing groove through dusty layers of classic 12 bit samples. ‘Robertson’s Jam’ is a dance floor workout of digital synth textures reminiscent of a midnight drive through the city. 850 is a nostalgic 40-minute journey to bump in the car, feel on a pair of headphones, or jam at a house party. “Midnight Driver", the new single from London-based soft-rock, disco, and funk specialist Joel Sarakula is a soft-rock fantasy where the narrator laments his lover's nocturnal habits. The Californian sun-kissed guitars, smooth vocal stylings, and Latin percussion all blend into a cinematic mood (and a great driving song).

On the flipside is 'I'm Still Winning', a 70s disco-inspired track where Sarakula fully immerses himself in the shady world of casinos and high-stakes gambling. Resembling a defiant riposte from the title character of The Eagles' 'Desperado', Sarakula sings with a vocal channeling 70s icons Boz Scaggs and Ned Doheny.
