i was inspired by the New Orleans street funeral to create this. I've tried to emulate the same structure, with the first sad, mournful section eventually leading to a joyous and ecstatically frenzied celebration of thanks to the spirits for the life of the Deceased.

Puente a Oriente

In previous tracks I already referred a few times to Ed Buryn and his book "Vagabonding in America" (1973, revised in 1976). One of the several 'Off the Tape' segments talks about Pyramid Lake (Nevada). I reenacted this text with a female narrator and set this to an ambient backdrop. The cover photo is from my visit to that place in December 1979.

David Molesky interviewed Maria Kreyn, a russian-born philosopher and painter. The text appeared in the magazine "juxtapoz art & culture" in February 2015 (pages 90-97). 
A part from that interview was used for my track https://soundcloud.com/api_zz/art-music. 
Another part from that interview inspired the lyrics of this tune.

Introduction and Lyrics in English

This song was inspired by the images of war that I have been increasingly confronted with on the internet, television, and social media in recent years.
The verses are an attempt to translate the sometimes unspeakable horror of brutally extinguished lives and destroyed houses and cities into pictorial, metaphorical language.
The chorus expresses the longing to stop this creeping wave of destruction and counter it with a profound world peace. A world peace that will lead stray souls, who are currently being seduced by right-wing populist and ultimately warmongering slogans, to return to their true loving, deeply humanistic core selves.
Since the entire song is a kind of desperate plea for more love for oneself and others, I chose Picasso's famous painting “The Supplicant” as song-cover.

Hello….. It’s snowing now. I recorded this song in a snowstorm the other day… inside of course. I was working on a folk song. Fingerpicking and traditional lyrics, and as what sometimes happens, I really wasn’t really feeling it. So I cranked things up a bit and here we go. I’ll be 70 years old in a few months, which seems like some sort of milestone. (Better than a tombstone) I started listening to music as a young teenager in the 60’s, when my friend Joe turned me on to a lot of great music, most notably, the Woodstock Album. He’s dead now. I never played an instrument or sung until the late 80’s when plucked my first guitar in Germany. Within the last 15 years, I have been learning about and playing music. (Now’s my chance.) Ha. Songster version was a little ‘copla’ about not being able to be with, nor without, a loved person.  As usual, I’ve ‘upgraded’ it, process from which you only get the final result, normally. 

But, following lyrics’ contradictions, I not only serve parts with different levels of (dis)order in heavy rock - flamenco sauce, but raw vs very cooked parts as well, starting with the improvised phone recording of the very first idea I had to develop the song, so please excuse my failures and noises.

Deutscher Singer-Songwriter über fünfzig Jahre alt. Seit fast vierzig Jahren schreibe und singe ich Lieder. Mein Hauptinstrument ist die akustische Gitarre, aber ich mag auch Perkussionsinstrumente (Cajon, Maracas, Gurio). Ich liebe es, melancholische und poetische Balladen zu komponieren. Aber manchmal schreibe ich auch (schwarze) humorvolle Songs, Jazzstyle und -Rocksongs. Meine Hauptsprache ist Deutsch. Aber in Zukunft will ich mehr Songs auf Englisch und vereinzelt auch Französisch schreiben.
In meinen Kompositionen bin ich inspiriert von Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Jacques Brel, Van Morrison und Bob Dylan. Auf meinen Platten spiele und singe ich alles alleine. Meine Vision für die Zukunft ist es, Musiker aus verschiedenen Kulturen zu finden, die gerne ihre Tracks mit mir teilen wollen.
Mein persönliches Mantra ist ein Satz, der von Paul Mccartney auf dem Beatles-Album "Abbey Road auf dem Track "In the end" vor fast Fünfzig Jahren geschrieben wurde:

German singer-songwriter over fifty years old. For almost forty years I have been writing and singing songs. My main instrument is the acoustic guitar, but I also like percussion instruments (Cajon, Maracas, Gurio). I love composing melancholic and poetic ballads.
