This month we have the superb talents of Ryan Blackman for you, Influenced by early 90’s sounds  - FSOL, Aphex Twin and Autechre, along with a myriad other UK electronic music artists Ryan ventured into the Techno clubs of London, by the Mid 90’s experiencing Final Frontier(Club UK), Sabresonic, and most significant of all - LOST. He was exposed to luminaries such as Jeff Mills, Steve Bicknell, Claude Young, Jay Denham, Luke Slater, and many others. A connection with these artists that remains strong today.
Throughout the late 90’s to early 2000’s - he went on to play at, and promote, parties across Europe, with much respected DJ’s and Live Acts  such as Underground Resistance, DJ Rolando, Ben Sims, Stacey Pullen, 65D Mavericks and many others.

These days Ryan continues to collect and play electronic music, presenting a broad range of sounds from ambient to hardcore, and a recent highlight for him was closing the “Campfire Stories” podcast series for legendary Canadian label Silent Season. For Gated, Ryan has packed in an hour and a half of incredible dance music, and also mastered by Plant43! (Big shoutout to Emile)

Gated Podcast 37 // Ryan Blackman // March 2022

The Miami-based L.I.E.S. and Apron correspondent mixes up a bunch of techno and electro for our 89th podcast. 
According to the man himself, we have the much-maligned internet to thank for the music of Greg Beato getting picked up for release by Apron and L.I.E.S. last year. All four 12"s issued in 2013 bearing the name of Greg Beato suggested that the Miami-based producer was capable of crafting some tripped out dancefloor material many veteran artists would be jealous of (not to mention the grip of memorable track titles he's been responsible for). This impression transfers to Beato's record playing skills, with the official L.I.E.S. tagline that he "DJs like a seasoned veteran who has been in the trenches fighting the fight for a long time" more than re-emphasised on his mix for Juno Plus. Clocking in at 75 minutes long, Beato skilfully runs through all manner of unidentifiable techno and electro on a mix that's been getting some serious repeat plays in our office.

Those wishing to catch Greg Beato in his element will be happy to discover that this month sees the youngster embark on a European tour, commencing with in Berlin with further events lined up in Paris, Milan, Frankfurt and a London date with Legowelt and Route 8 for the Find Me In The Dark crew. Despite Beato's acknowledgement that the internet played a key role in his music gaining wider recognition through FunkinEven and Ron Morelli's respective labels, the producer seems less inclined than many of his contemporaries with engaging in the self-promotion game, which made it somewhat of a surprise when he agreed to participate in answering some questions to accompany his mix. This is the live recording of Intergalactic Gary playing at the Hipodrome 5 Years Anniversary party, in the main room at Club Control, Bucharest, last month. It was a crazy night in one of Bucharest’s most effervescent clubs. You can hear this also on the recording, 2-3 glitches when people were literally jumping and pushing the DJ table and skipping the record or touching the recorder :)

Luger opened the night and warmed the atmosphere, until John took control and fired up the place as you can hear on the recording.  The night has quickly shifted into the a late morning by Mick Wills’ dark and deep session, filling the air with his obscure edits.

It was a great party, with 2 uncompromising DJs in a comfortable club with an unleashed crowd.
Thanks Club Control for having us and special thanks to Alexandru Jijian for organizing everything. We had a really wonderful time.

GAMADON (aka GAvin MAc DONagh) is an Irish DJ, based in London. He hosts a monthly two-hour electro show on Timeline Music on the last Saturday of each month. The show is called Warehouse Manifesto, which is the name of the label he started with the objective of releasing his and other productions on vinyl format. Gamadon has been playing records for over 20 years and has supported the likes of The Prodigy, 808 State, Sunil Sharpe, Defekt and Alex Arnout and has played B2B sets with the likes of Jamie Behan, Jon Hussey and Derek Carr. His DJ travels have taken him far and wide - Singapore, Vancouver, Bermuda and Berlin. A self-confessed huge fan of Vortex Traks, he has recorded this all vinyl set especially for your listening pleasure.
