Start of Something

I could talk for hours and hours and hours and this song is a perfect example of that. Even if I don’t want to talk I still have so many words to say and I know it drives everyone insane when I go on and on about a person or a situation or an occurrence so I tried to put it in a song. “You make the world feel smaller” is kind of a strange line and it’s sort of hard to explain exactly what I mean but I hope it makes sense to you guys. YMTWFS is about someone who makes you want to be a better person. Even if they don’t like you back you’re kind of content (or maybe you’re not—that works too) with just liking them regardless. You want them to know you appreciate them but you’re not gonna outright tell them out of embarrassment. One of my mottos is “Embarrassment is only real if you think it’s embarrassing” and everyone thinks i’m full of shit every time I explain this but I still stand by it tbh. Even if you do the most “embarrassing” thing ever, as long as you’re content and secure with yourself is it really embarrassing? It can’t be if you don’t acknowledge the embarrassment SOOOO with that being said, I absolutely will not and do not take my own advice. Not in the slightest actually which is why this song exists. Smaller is just a mix of yearning and frustration but also happiness and the foolish/ childish fascination of a person. ￼No ill intent, all completely pure respect and admiration for a person. Just wanting to have something solely pure with someone but being too scared to tell them how you feel—which I guess is what alot of love song are about but oh wellllll. One thing i cannot justify in this songs is the lyric in the second verse “You make me miserable but not in a bad way.” because?????? I’m attached to the lyric now so it’s to late to change it but yes I agree, that’s stupid. oops. I still love this song so much. Purple is all of my friend’s favourite song of mine so i finally got around to posting it. For K💜
Purple made me wanna keep writing music. It went from being about someone I was feeling ignored by and allowing myself to get walked all over by to having a whole new meaning. I have written better and i will continue to write better but still I hold purple at such a high spot in terms of my music because it means so much to me. I made someone cry with this song once and this is gonna sound strange but that felt so accomplishing lol. I’m glad that so many of my people saw something in this song. I can’t believe i’m able to dance to this song now (only the end because it’s still kind of a pretty mellow song but I digress). You are more than how someone you like views you. Don’t lose yourself in someone else. Don’t let someone ruin colours, songs, movies, books, albums, artists, scents, places, etc for you just because they’re gone now. Reclaim what you lost. Just because you may not have that person anymore doesn’t mean your life is over. In some cases, like purple, it can actually be even better for you. Don’t let someone treat you poorly just because they care about you *sometimes*. Sometimes isn’t enough. It’s not always easy to leave bad situations but it’s so beneficial to you in the long run. You are the one person in this world that sticks with you through everything. Even if you have nobody else you’ll always have yourself and it’s so amazing to learn how to value that. Purple (demo)

‘Hey, Autumn’ is about how much I love fall while also dealing with seasonal depression that comes in the colder months. Some of the lyrics are a bit dark and some don’t make sense but lyrically I actually really like this song. I wrote it a solid 20 minutes ago so I haven’t given myself time to sit down with it yet but it’s alright. Also sorry for the quality of my voice in this recording it’s 12:12 AM rn and i’m trying to record quietly. oops. Anyways back to the song. I kind of tried to personify autumn as a season and make it seem like i’m singing to a person named Autumn when it’s just a season. With new seasons comes new problems, new people, new things in general and sometimes I feel like autumn is some sort of like physical entity. Cold weather, coffee, hugging people in big sweaters to try and get warm, blankets, meeting new people, going to new houses, halloween’s coming up, summer’s gone, it starts to get dark earlier, pants and hoodie weather, all physical things. All things i appreciate when they come around. Sometimes I think of things as human in my head even if they aren’t so I can relate to and connect with them more. And like people, sometimes fall overstays it’s welcome in my perception and this song is about my love and hate relationship with the season in general. Seasonal depression is real and it really sucks and can be really hard to get out of. Last year I was in a really bad place during the fall and I can’t believe i got through it which is what the verses and the end of the chorus are about. “Last year she lost against the leaves.” Fall sucked in other words. I feel like i envision the chorus taking place at a party where the subject (me I guess) goes to a party with a friend but ends up leaving with this random person (‘autumn’) and the friend of the subject who the subject came in with is asking all around for the subject and one of the random people at the party says “oh she left with autumn” and the friend gets worried because the friend has seen this happen before. I don’t know why i’m writing so much tbh. I always have a lot to say and it’s 12 in the morning so I think i’m just bored out of my mind. ANYWAYSSS, if you’re struggling with seasonal depression or depression of any kind, you’re not alone and i’m always here for you. Drown You Out is about pushing people away and the repercussions of that￼. The mix is obviously really bad because i’m not too good at stuff like that so i apologize for the sound quality of everything. I wrote it a couple days ago in the dark in my room and had to sit with it for a few days before I knew what I wanted to do with it. Drown You Out is about being a bad friend—not intentionally, but still being one regardless. I started writing lyric ideas for this song after realizing I had been being distant with close friends of mine because of things that I was going through. The bridge of this song is a bunch of voice memos and audio recordings from different things in my life. The little baby voice that plays in the back is me at age 2-3?? reading a book to my mom. I always watch that video when I miss being a little kid. After I wrote the song, I realized it could also be perceived as me talking to my younger self (which kind of made it 10x sadder). But back to the point, pushing people away is sad especially when neither of you did anything wrong for the relationship to be fading. I thought about how hurt the friend must’ve been and then tried to put that into music form or whatever. This song was easy to write but hard to listen to and I hope someday i’m able to forgive myself the way others forgive me. I don’t think the person whom DYO is about will ever know, but if they do, i’m so sorry🤍 Tell your friends you love them, please. I never meant to drown you out.

Hiii!!! it’s been a while. i’ve haven’t really picked up a guitar or written anything in weeks because of school and stuff but i finally gained the motivation to sit down and work on something so here’s a song i wrote back in July i think??? Places was originally written for one of my friends but these past couple months i’ve had a change of perspective in terms of the song. Places is for people who feel lost after losing someone. I’m so excited for this song to sound better someday (as this is a poor quality bandlab recording) but i’m glad i could put how i felt when i wrote it into music. Places is for the people that no longer speak to their childhood best friends. Places is for the people who will always save a place for someone even in their absence. Places is for the people who miss new opportunities simply because they are too busy thinking about the past ones. Places is for the people that see “home” as a person(s) instead of a physical place. Places is for the people that are finally starting to accept what cannot be changed. This is poorly recorded and edited, as I didn’t know which direction I wanted to take this song—although i think i will with time. Home is not always a place, although it’s title makes it out to be. I will always associate this song with summer 2022 and walking to physical therapy in the pouring rain with this song blasting in my headphones—Or a sunny day in my dad’s ex girlfriend’s car with this blasting on the radio. And ever since that summer, this song has become so much more than just a song about a friend. Often when I write songs they are held to one strictly thought out meaning. However, places is anything you want it to be. For whatever reason, this song helped me come to terms with a lot and helped me begin to understand and connect more with my family and i’m so glad I could give it a greater meaning than the skeleton of a song it used to be.

This is a song that I associate with the epitome of a false alarm. Whatever I thought was going to happen as an outcome of what this song was about did not happen and everything turned out to be fine. BUTTTT i still consider this song a huge part of my life which is why it took me so long to finally get the nerve to post. Everyday in bio I write “Vivian” across my write in a blue pen and it’s just something i started doing and now i feel like it’s a good luck thing. The song is about how i feel like my childhood kind of got cut short and how i felt like that was aided by somebody so that i was able to sort of finish my childhood i guess. I don’t know I always struggle to put this song into words because it means a million things to me. It means a lot to me because of the person it’s about but also because of myself. I feel like it’s like an inner child type thing where it’s for the person it’s about but it’s also for myself. Vivian isn’t their real name, of course—however it’s a pseudonym that eventually just became a whole identity and like presence that I started connecting with. Ever since I wrote this song, the name Vivian has been so much more than just a name to me and apart of my everyday life. This song is for people who are extremely appreciative of people who will never know. I wish I could put into words how much some people have unknowingly helped me and got me out of ridiculously dark situations. I’ll never tell you but I hope you know.

this song originally started off as a pretty mellow and sad acoustic song with only acoustic guitar and vocals. i was initially going to just post this as a voice memo and have it be simple but i think this song deserves so much more than that. i genuinely do believe this is one of the prettiest songs i’ve ever written. Blue Light is about loving someone who doesn’t always love themselves and all the feelings surrounding that. I wrote this song and then didn’t look at it for a month after because it was kind of one of those things I wrote on impulse and forgot about but when I looked back at it, I thought it was so pretty and well phrased. 
            I’ve only showed it to my dad and his reaction made me so happy. I’ve written tons of love songs but this is the first one I actually felt came from a different perspective than all the other ones. I’m not sure how to explain it this song just feels very different to me. I think there’s something about writing this song in the coldest point of winter and finally showing people as it starts to get warmer. This song feels very much like evolving to me. Even though it’s a seemingly hopeful song, it feels like closure—whatever that’s supposed to mean. I think the riff at the beginning is very spring and warm and hopeful and happy but the overall consensus of the song isn’t which is kind of an interesting contrast. 
            Us as humans live very complicated and hard to navigate lives. I think it’s important to remember that we are all human. I think it’s important to not hold yourself or others to unrealistic expectations of how we should be living. Remember, this is everyone’s first time living too. We’re all figuring things out together and individually and this is the time where we are beginning to decipher our own feelings and personalities—and it’s okay to take the time to do that. Never lose sight of yourself trying to focus on someone else. You are born with yourself and at the end of the day you are the single individual person that is with you constantly even after anyone leaves. That being said, don’t leave yourself. You only have one of you. There are millions of people in this world that you will meet. Some replaceable, some not. But one thing that you will never ever ever be able to replace is yourself. Don’t lose the one thing that will always have you.
