There’s comfort hid in the muck and grind,

Every orbit hums, small and deep,
what you sow in ache, you’ll harvest in sleep.
So I chat to the dark like a daft old friend,
“Stay for tea, love, there’s no end.”

Rhymes with the kettle, hisses in time,
hearts don’t heal, they learn to rhyme.

Oort cloud, round me close,
spin me soft where the starlight froze.
No road out, no line drawn through,
just me and the dust and the thought of you.
Oort cloud, crowd me kind,
teach my bones your patient mind.

Ash in the breeze, brass in the throat,
whisper of coal where the prayers once float.
I tried to punch holes clean through the mist,
got my knuckles kissed by the night I missed.
Turned to the hedge, said “cheers, old sage,”

I laughed, I swore, I set my pace,
the mud kept time, the sky kept grace.

By the gate where galaxies seep,
I plant my grief, it learns to sleep.
Tea steam curls like Saturn’s ring,
small things teach the biggest thing.
A lamb kicks snow off April clay,
sun-through-mist makes the hurt okay.
Hiraeth’s hymn on a cracked old phone,
voice on repeat: “You’re not alone.”

So I smile at the fog, “aye, cheers,”
we’ve been circlin’ this road for years.
Same slow turn, same tune, new key,
the cloud was never it, it was me.

I said I would make it didn’t I :)? Well, I started making this over a year ago actually, but scrapped it and started over early this year. I realized I needed to get better at audio editing and editing in general to do what I wanted to here, and I thought if I tried making this immediately back then, it’d just be really similar to the other Meme Megamashups. I wanted to include new meme songs along with all sorts of meme songs from different time periods. It was nostalgic looking back on all those, and it made me realize just how freaking many are out there. I’m still getting into random stuff like Scatman and Touhou YTPMVs today, and judging by the amount of meme songs that come back randomly, I think lots of others are, too. The Internet we’ve built is seriously a vast place, and because of it there’s so much art and inspiration that we can experience. This is kind of my love letter to all of that.
