Midgar is very happy to deliver a new release by Wata Igarashi!!! Anticipated since few weeks already, with the two bonus digital tracks ´Mantle´ and ´Displacement´ (both available for free download), Ciphers EP is a rich assemblage of deep sonic excursions showing throughout a strong coexistence of organic and virtual elements. The record opens with ´Ciphers´, where a fast paced sandy groove is driving high on drones via sparking ambiances. Second track, ´Hailstones´ is basically a beat knocking its way outside, under a heavy hi-hat hail, slashed by snares and haunted by holographic spirits. On the B-side ´Lucifero´ carries a mellow but powerful mood, sounds like a morning star that gradually transforms into a supernova, is definitely the more dancefloor oriented cut of the release. Closing the vinyl, the slow-footed ´Cocytus´ is the complete opposite of its previous track, because of a cold, grave rhythm, treated like a windswept tree. Finally, the only digital tracks, ´Mantle´ and ´Displacement´ are perfectly resuming Wata Igarashi sound signature, as trippy gatherings of crafted beats joining drones and deformed soundscapes, the first is mind stressing and epic at certain stages, while the second vibrates so dreamy as it´s made of percussions and supernatural blows.

DJ Nobu & Katsunori Sawa are Nobusawa.

A true auteur of hyper functional dance floor Techno production trades blows with one of the genre’s most lauded DJ’s.

By virtue of its component parts - each individual is a veteran of their respective schools, Nobusawa represents something of a dream team within the field of contemporary dance music. Nobu - a DJ in a rich vein of form, whose unique and beloved performances continue to build upon decades of experience as a selector; and Katsunori Sawa - whose keen ear for sonic balance & inventive engineering processes have long since marked him out as both a top tier solo artist & collaborator - the latter previously represented in his work as one half of the Steven Porter project.

The pairing also makes a strong statement regarding the burgeoning Japanese Techno scene - Sawa hails from Kyoto on Japan’s west side, and Nobu from Chiba - the east side of the country. Both artist’s represent different articulations of the genre, but come together as a powerful production unit to deliver a stunning, cohesive record in line with the Token label’s more dissonant, razor edged output.

Featuring two collaborative recordings, and a pair of solo works from each artist - TOKEN91 eschews low slung, wide angle ambience in favour of a more stripped back, direct approach. Nobu’s offering Peppercorns operates in the high frequencies, a tentatively more droning, dream-like composition in the context of Sawa’s galloping Call Scope - which marries quick fire kicks with a heady, psychedelic lead sequence. Decorative 17, EP closer & the second of the two collaborations is an unabashed main room workout, while Raspberry looks to warehouse spaces for inspiration - polyrhythmic drum machine programming buoys a warping lead synth line that binds the piece, whilst remaining untethered and wholly adventurous.

It’s a powerful debut for both artists that speaks volumes on the richness of properly articulated & well executed collaboration. Both Nobu & Sawa’s fingerprints are all over the work, and each individual brings an undeniably different angle to the EP -  but as a whole, it is the duo’s obvious, mutually respectful rapport that shines though, lifting the music far and above the sum of its parts.

Anja Schneider’s Sous imprint has fast become a permanent home for Anja’s more experimental productions. Anja returns to Sous this September to mark the 11th release on the label – it comes with with two incredible original cuts - ‘Funk That’ and ‘Far Side of The Moon’. As ever, her creative maelstrom has yielded huge results once again.    ‘Funk That’ is a tough groover. Fattened 909 kicks and crisp percussion lay the foundations for keyed rave stabs, vocal shots and tons of energy. Swinging hats add a layer of movement as a cool pad is introduced midway along with acidic nuance and claps.

‘Camargue’ gets a fresh treatment on Drumcode, as a handful of techno’s finest give new life to an R&S classic.
Coming from the studio of CJ Bolland and Portuguese journeyman The Advent, the track was born out of a golden age of Belgium dance music and first released in 1992.

Enrico Sangiuliano delivers a trademark cosmic rework underlined by tribal bass stabs and twisted synth lines to accompany the famous riff. It’s an outstanding remake that’s already a big summer favourite for the Drumcode crew.

Peter Van Hoesen presents Uncovered 2008-2018 Vol. 1-3 - a three-part, 52 track compilation documenting his sound over ten years of the beloved Time To Express imprint. Consisting of Peter's unreleased tracks, rediscovered sketches and material from his live shows, Uncovered offers a coherent overview of his creative process during this period, deconstructing his inimitable aesthetic across three distinct volumes.

With the launch of Time To Express in 2008, Peter created a platform to explore the niche he had become increasingly drawn to - a sound that brings us from sweltering warehouse raves to the misty mountains of Japan, tracing the universal effects of psychedelic sound design and swirling, hypnotic techno throughout a global underground.

Whilst listening back to his old material, it became clear to Peter that this ten-year period formed its own chapter in his discography. Of the three volumes, each one chronicles a different aspect of his sound and can generally be separated into Vol. 1 consisting of ambient works, Vol. 2 of slower bpms and Vol.3 offering faster techno and breakbeats.

By assembling this into a compilation, he consolidates a formative phase of his artistry to paint a detailed picture of his musical approach during this period.

Time To Express will continue to cater to the most discerning techno fans, but with this compilation Peter extends an invitation to understand an important period for himself and the label, and in doing so, clears the way for new territory to be explored.

A firm Drumcode favourite, Mark Reeve is back with his latest
techno opus.

Weaving his vitalising, biting techno through the seminal imprint since 2012, Reeve has since become a permanent fixture within Adam Beyer’s camp. He saw demand for his knockout ‘Run Back’ EP being matched and surpassed by his ‘Far Away’ EP, which bagged the number one spot on Beatport’s techno chart. Staunch DC fans will also be familiar with Reeve’s output on the label’s ASides compilation series, and clubbers hot on the tails of Drumcode events will have caught him
centre stage across a string of showcases, including the inaugural Drumcode Festival.

Reeve’s music invariably endorses an arresting sonic aesthetic, with intense melodies often driving in those eye-closing moments. The title track ‘Distance’ is an atmospheric opening gambit set to sonically massage the senses with uplifting pads and a radiant melody. ‘Serum’, a track recently roadtested by Beyer at a special event in collaboration with Cercle, soars and captivates as it progresses with a low-end rumble and intricate keys. ‘Fix Me’ is a vigorous techno workout that’s intent on energising a clubroom rammed with sweat-soaked dancers. Closing off the EP, ‘Filmwave’ rides a killer groove into a pit of punchy, powerful kicks.
